hedonism is good actually rich people just suck at it
i think not only do we have a moral obligation to preserve human life but also a moral obligation to maximize the pleasure of others and ourselves (provided it doesnβt hurt anyone)
people donβt just deserve to eat food, they deserve to eat good food that tastes good without worrying about nutritional content
people donβt just deserve clothes, they deserve nice clothes that are well made and fit their personal style
people donβt just deserve the bare minimum, they donβt just deserve to be alive, they deserve to live and have nice things for no other reason than making that particular person happy
βOh that animal doesnβt LIKE you it just TOLERATES youβ β¦..So? If thatβs the most a non-social organism can feel towards you isnβt that just as special an honor as whatever it is you think affection means??
βThis creature with no natural social instincts outside of mating allows me to freely interact with it, while causing it little stressβ is fucking DOPE AS SHIT
alsoβ¦ are you SURE? like, weβre still finding out so much about animals. Wolverines fathers, who we thought were not involved in caring for kits, turn out to travel around and collect all their kits from multiple mothers and take the whole group out on camping trips. Some spiders have tiny frog pets (!) or group up to communally raise their young. Wild sharks, crocodiles, and snakes have formed strong, documented relationships with people.Β
this man Gilberto (Chito) Shedden nursed this crocodile back to health after it was shot in the eye, and they were best friends for the rest of the crocodileβs life.
this python came in out of the wild as a baby snake and curled up next to the familyβs infant,Β Oun SamΒbat (or Oeun Sambat?) and they were inseparable for 12 years
Cristina Zenato removes hooks from sharks and they let her stick her handΒ down their throat to do it and they even bring other sharks who need help to see her.
Itβs a relationship that goes beyond a single helpful interaction. For example one of the sharks that would show up when she first started swimming with them was a shark she called Foggy Eye who really didnβt like to be touched. One day, Foggy Eye showed up with a hook in her mouth thatΒ Cristina Zenato removed, and ever after, Foggy Eye cuddles when she visits, putting her head in Cristinaβs lap and enjoying some petting
Β We donβt know SO much. Some wolf spiders will adopt unrelated orphaned spiderlings and raise them. We recently discovered thatΒ the ant-mimicking jumping spider (below) produces βmilkβ and suckles its young until they are nearly fully grown.
SO. Donβt assume we know all about what creatures do or feel or whether or not they form social connections or bond with others.

βThe camera adds 10 poundsβ is a phrase of the past. Now people look better in their pictures than they do in person
When people say that the camera adds ten pounds itβs because cameras used in filmmaking/TV production have a wider focal length and therefore subjects look wider or bigger. Whereas cellphone cameras have a short focal length that makes subjects appear thinner or smaller.
Nowadays, with DSLRβs and a variety of lenses, we are able to depict a wide range of focal lengths by using one kind of camera.
So that is why most people on social media may seem to look thinner than they do in person (especially in selfies because the front facing camera on phones especially have short focal lengths).
And that is also how the phrase βthe camera adds ten poundsβ came about.
this is actually so interesting I had no idea
