I've been absent, but I can't say I have been very busy with things I believe are important. I put together a portfolio over the past few weeks of what I think are some of my nicest pieces. I also had that portfolio reviewed by three colleges this past Sunday, it went well other then one school who had a dick reviewer who basically said all my work was shit. Fuck him. I know what I create is good and as long as I believe that I will continue doing what I love. Continuing on the same note I have been thinking a lot about the thought of college maybe being a path that wasn't chosen for me. It's a brave and bold thing so say, but everything in the past few years really leads me to believe I would be just as fine if not better off without the higher education. For obvious reasons my parents don't agree with this and I respect that. It's really hard for me to get it out in words to them because I feel like its unexplainable, but I have that feeling within that I would be making the wrong decision. I do want to still make them happy so I am try to reason with them in some way. This is where the idea of a gap year after graduating high school and going to college came into mind. I think it would be a great way for me to test the waters and see if I can make it out in the world, as well as have the opportunity to hopefully prove this to my parents as well. If this does not work then I will make my way towards college. I don't expect any reactions or comments, but I wanted to keep everyone updated on where my life is and what I'm currently trying to figure out. Hope everyone is doing well!

UPDATE ON SCHOOL

So I'm now about a month into my senior year. It's going well. I just signed up for this work program which allows me to leave school everyday at 11am (usual time is 2pm). They allow me to do this as long as I'm working 15 hours a week, which is ridiculously easy to accomplish. Also since I work at a movie theater for my day job I only work at night time. So that allows me to have a large portion of my day dedicated to freelancing and gamedev.

ONE WEEK IN TO FREELANCING

So as I said I am going to keep everyone updated as much as possible on my freelancing journey. I am officially one week into freelancing and i have to say it is going very good!

I have gotten two commissions so far (both of which are for logo designs). I am still in the process of working on both so I can’t speak for the completion and payment process, but hopefully in the next few days I will have more to say on that!

I also am making sure to set aside a set amount of time everyday to work on other things, most of which is seeming to be iOS UI design and some web design. I am doing this because it is helping me from getting burnt out working on one thing. It also is helping me expand my knowledge and learn in the process.

My website is now up and running! I have nothing up there yet, but you are more the welcome to follow it so when I do post work you will be the first to see!

FREELANCING AND WEBSITE

I have now reached the point were I am working with a few clients on some commissions and I am very excited to update you all soon on how my first few go!

I am currently hard at work on some logo designs and my plan is the tell you about my first experiences freelancing. I also am hoping that I can get some feedback as to how I did from my clients to relay to you guys in hopes that it will help you as well.

Lastly for this update I wanted to inform everyone that I have decided on creating a portfolio website to help promote my freelancing. So that is currently under construction and hopefully be up and running in about a week or two!

24 HOURS INTO FREELANCING

It's been less than 24 hours since I launched myself into freelance. I wanted to come on and write down some of the things I have learned from everyone in the community helping me out as well as what I have read online.

Firstly do not sell yourself short! So many of you said I made my prices to low. Make your prices fair, but remember you still want to making a good profit on your art. Second, the first few weeks can be slow and don't let it be misleading for you. Take this time to practice and increase your skills. Keep making awesome art! You want to make people say "damn" when they see your work.

Next I am beginning to think it might be a good first investment to buy and web host and build a portfolio site to show off your work. I'm still not 100% on this, but I'm gonna continue looking into it and keep you all updated here.

COMMISSIONS

I’m trying something that is very new to me and this could end up being a complete flop!

I am looking to purchase a camera along with a large assortment of equipment to go along with it. I have calculated out that everything is going to cost me right around $2,500 and that is a lot more then I can afford at this moment in time.

I decided I would embark on a new journey and attempt doing some commission artwork for clients. You will have to bare with me as I learn the ropes, but my plan is to document what I learn along the way and share it with everyone so that those interested can use what I learn when they start out. So as much as you may be hiring me to create something for you, you may also end up benefiting because of what you may learn from my trial and error.

As long as this isn’t a complete failure you will begin to see tips for starting out with freelancing popping up on both my Tumblr and Twitter.

Even if you are not interested in hiring me a simple reblog goes a very long way!
