A New Project!

I thought I should share an update. This project is still in its planning stages, but I’d like to share it nonetheless. There are piano books filled with arrangements of hymns; I grew up with books like this and have been playing out of them all my life. I’m going to make one and get it published by the time I graduate from college in May! It’s an ambitious goal, but I plan to see it through!

Thought I’d make a quick little update. My posts on pricing are extremely outdated; those were made while I was still in high school, and I’m working on my Master’s Degree in Music Composition now. For someone without a degree, $5 per minute made sense, but I have a bachelor’s in music composition now; I know what I’m doing a lot more than I did when I made this blog and was open for commissions. At this point, I’ll generally be starting with about $50 per minute of music for, say, a solo piece, and work up from there as the work increases in scale.

It’s also worth noting that none of the examples on this blog were written under the instruction of my professors. If you’d like to see what my music is looking like these days, head to jordanwimmermusic.com .

So, it turns out that the mod of a blog I really like’s birthday was yesterday. As a result, I decided to make this for her. It’s a short little piece based on melodies form Undertale, which she likes. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it. @izamod @ask-sparksandfriends

Hey, everypony. I just started an ask blog at ask-bass-concerto.tumblr.com

Also, I changed my OC from Ivory Keys to Bass Concerto. BC just fits more the IK does.

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but here's a little something I just wrote today. Just so you know I'm not dead. Enjoy :)

As always, to see all the music examples, click the example tag on the bottom of the post.

well i dont know how to pay you but could you try "wonderbolt" by dbbrony?

Avatar

That would be illegal. Dbbrony owns his work and I can’t sell anything of his since he’s the rightful owner. I can write new music, but I can’t do anything with music owned by anyone else. Sorry.

In simpler terms, I can’t transcribe music for money. It’s not legal. Sorry.

I got this as a request and decided it was an important enough point to make that I chose to publish it.

A commission I wrote for an OC named Sundew. The description given to me was "Sundew is a rather quiet pony that is over-enthusiastic about plants. The best way to describe him, is that he is a little like Fluttershy, just with plants [and male, obviously :P] So I was looking for a 2 minute-ish clarinet solo with piano accompaniment to reflect is quiet, pensive, but often quirky nature when his plants go rogue." As always, click the example tag for all the examples.

Here's another example. One of my friends (Same friend as with the first example) told me to write this duet, using whatever instruments I felt like. I used a cello and viola.

As always, click the tag to get all the examples on one page.

I just realized that I might should show my ability to do not only nice music, but epic music as well. This piece is over a year old, but I still really like it. It was made as a battle theme for a game my brother was/is planning on making. In this, I've got two trumpets, a euphonium (which is basically a nice-sounding baritone), and a tuba. And, of course, unpitched percussion, in this case consisting of snare, bass, and crash cymbals. Not much, but it still sounds impressive.

Also, keep in mind that it's for a game, so it's made to loop infinitely. I have it loop once, just to show how it's fluid, but it still ends oddly.

Click the example tag for all my samples on one neat little page :)

Format

For those of you who want some kind of format for your e-mail, here you go.

Title/subtitle: What you want the song to be called.

Description of song: This is going to be the meat of your e-mail. Here, you're going to tell me what the song is going to be for, what you want it to sound like, any details I can use to get a song in my head to start writing.

Length: How long you want the song

Instruments: The instruments you want in the song. If I disagree, I'll ask you about the change (I'll stick with the same number), but if you insist on your original set, I'll respect that and choose yours.

Sound/Visual: This is important for me. If you want the song just to listen to it, then that means I have to write it one way and use Audacity some, whereas if you want it for people to read the music and perform it, I have to write it another way. Please tell me whether you want it to listen (sound) or to be played (visual)

Price: Total price based on $5 per instrument per minute.

If you think of anything that isn't on here, go ahead and put it in your e-mail. This structure does not, I repeat, does NOT have to be followed. I will still look at your e-mail and read it.

If I think of anything else that should go in the e-mail, I'll post about it or I'll update this post, depending on how big the tumblr gets.

About questions

Okay, I'm doing questions now. I'll prioritize the ones about music, but I'll answer anything. Have fun!

Oh yeah! In regards to lyrics... I don't do lyrics. I can't write them, and I don't have anyone to sing them for me. Sorry.

Okay, this one is a variations on a theme I wrote as the first movement to a piano sonata. It's about a month old and is probably the best example of my current skill I have. However, it is only piano, so it won't have the complexities or intricacies that my previous example had, although it is complex in its own right. Enjoy!

This is a piece I wrote for a friend at school. She gave me a length, instruments she wanted - 2 guitars, piano, bass, drumset - and a description of her character - a kind, graceful person - and I wrote the music. This is about a half of a year old, so I've gotten better since then. However, this IS my newest example of anything with multiple instruments. Check out a later post for more modern stuff.
