that “I can do this all day” parallel got me fucked up cos like??? This is literally who Steve’s always been.

Little Steve would never back down from a fight, regardless of its legality. He’d do what was right, even if his efforts were fruitless. He’d still try. And yeah, now Steve’s fighting for Bucky, and that’s a big part of what’s fueling him, but like, Steve has always put up a fight if the cause is just. And that’s why oversight is bullshit to him, cos he’s not gonna turn his cheek at someone that needs him. Steve has always been like this. Yes, he’s moral, and good and everything, but he’s not immune to trouble, if the cause is just. Steve’s not a goody-goody and never has been. He’s gonna fight for what he believes, and that’s never changed.

For the Russos: What is the most compelling aspect of Steve and Bucky's current relationship?

The relationship between Steve and Bucky is one of my brother’s and my favorite aspects of the Captain America movies.  It’s so complex and tragic.  They have a devotion to one another that is undermined and devastated by fate, and exploring how they endure that is fascinating for us as storytellers and fans.  We feel Civil War is the best chapter yet in the story of their relationship.  The character has gone from being Bucky Barnes to being the Winter Soldier, and now in this movie he is something else.  We explore whether he and Steve can ever have a relationship again and, if so, what that relationship can be.  -AR
