Shipping container cabin
I’ve been looking into adding cabin aesthetics to a shipping container house. It seems to be the most affordable way to build a long lasting home with that chalet/lodge look.
This would be done in several phases.
Phase-1: A foundation is laid and two 40’ containers are anchored to it with a metal roof on timber beam trusses is anchored on top.
^^Something along this basic design^^
Phase-2: This is when the insides of the containers are cut, drilled, and fitted with electrical conduit and plumbing. Any materials and appliances larger than a standard doorway would be brought in before the walls are fulling enclosed. A wood stove would be preferable and an electric cooktop for summer. Solar panels on the roof and a battery box along the exterior back wall would be installed and tested as the last stage of this phase.
Phase-3: The final phase is when the aesthetics are applied as well as the insulation. Spray insulation and steel siding seems the most practical for the exterior.
Hardwood flooring, preferably recovered from a demo. Insulation and cedar or birch wood paneling for the interior.
Then finally the furniture arrangement and it’s done.
The reasoning for the phases is monetary and the ability to move in during the late stages of Phase-2.
Just a concept that’s a refinement of some previous ideas. It has it’s compromises but I’m ok with that.
