the artist in the ambulance

Just your average self-proclaimed Jerseyian turned Masshole-by-Association/EMT/PCA taking it one day at a time. Originally moved up to Boston for a degree in illustration but I'm slowly transitioning to a career in public health. I post a lot of EMS related stuff and general fandomy bullshit. <i><b>all arrhythmias straighten themselves in the end. <i>"flip the siren, hit the lights, close the door and i'm gone..."<Br><center> <a href="http://dyke.web.fc2.com"><img src="http://page.freett.com/dyke/button10.gif" style="border:none;">

Sorry I've been a bit quiet in the tumblr world. It's been a busy/difficult month.

My mom has been on life support for almost a month because of severe brain trauma from a fall in the middle of the night. Everytime the doctors took her out of the induced coma her seizures would kick up.

I’ve been in Boston starting my new job at a busy hospital working in telemetry and I love it.

On Wednesday, my dad and the rest of the family decided to remove her tubes after many attempted treatments failed to help her brain. I was holding her hand for much of the process.

I wanted so badly to reach for the equipment in the room when her breathing became severely shallow. I wanted to intervene, but there was nothing I could do. Just wait it out.

Initially her pulse was very strong before the seizures. About the last 45 minutes it was beginning to jump around and slow. In the final moments I looked at her hands. I was leaving indentations in her wrist trying to find it underneath the swelling. Then I felt nothing.

Historical Prevalence of the Singular "They": Why any teacher/snobby english major telling you otherwise is Very Very Wrong
