What names should be used?

As egyptians, we try to keep the names of the Palestinian villages/cities that was destroyed or renamed alive, Sderot was built on Najd ruins for example (you may have heard of "Sderot cinema" where settlers go to the hilltop to watch the bombardments on Gaza), While Hebron and Jerusalem are right in english yet you'll usually find a lot of us call them Al-khalil and Al-Quds respectively because Israel is trying to erase the arabic names completely. Tel-Aviv with built near jaffa (yaffa), we don't call it yafo. it's akka not akko (in English it's Acre)

As Palestinians living in the US, we (speaking on behalf of my local community and family only) always exclusively refer to the names of Falsteeni villages, and never use the Israeli names so as not to give credence to Israel's theft of the land. We do not validate the colonizers in any way, shape, or form, especially not in this sense since they used the renaming of villages to erase any and all signs of Palestinian culture and identity (and to erase the existence of Palestinians on the land prior to the Nakba and the birth of the Israeli "state"). Like @alleani said, some names stayed the same in English (Jerusalem and Yaffa for example) but we refer to them by their Arabic names unless we're speaking with someone who doesn't speak Arabic.

They gave a pretty perfect response with great sources (thank you!!), the only correction I have is that we refer to Tel Aviv as Tel Ar-Rabeea' (not Yaffa) even though Tel Ar-Rabeea' is so close to Yaffa they're almost contiguous with each other (if you walk down the beach at Yaffa there is no marker for when it changes to Tel Ar-Rabeea' and vice versa, except maybe that Tel Ar-Rabeea' has been modernized to a disgusting extent compared to the beauty of the old buildings in Yaffa). Also, when we talk about that region in general, (Tel Ar-Rabeea' + Yaffa) calling it Yaffa is perfectly acceptable!!

"bluntly honest" autism but in the sense that i absolutely cannot refrain from complimenting strangers if i like their earrings or their shirt or i think they have a friendly-sounding laugh or i think their art is beautiful or i think the fic they wrote portrays the characters so well. "bluntly honest" doesn't have to mean "mean". i love to tell people things that are kind and also true.

People frequently talk about this or that website dying, but what it almost always winds up actually amounting to is that it still goes on existing with a reduced userbase and just isn't as popular as it was at its peak. Just more black-and-white "if it's not in first place it might as well not exist" thinking on most peoples part.

Just saw the most chronically online take of the year of someone ranting unironically that you should look up every single artist with a song you enjoy to make sure they are unproblematic. And if you don't do this them you are as bad as the controversy associated with the artist, for being 'willfully ignorant.' i work in technology, specifically surrounding supporting enterprise software.

this is bad.

this is death knell bad.

this is "end of life" for a product bad.

tumblr has basically said: this website is not a revenue vehicle, and thus, it may perish naturally. we won't pull support from it. we won't force people to move off of projects surrounding it. but we will do the bare minimum moving forward to maintain it's existence and one day, when no one else wants to take responsibility for the decaying infrastructure and literally endless backlog of defects and code rewrites, the website will sunset.

you should start building a different online community today if you want one. there are options. or, hell, if you're savvy enough, you could start your own and open source it.
