“i don’t understand what’s happening in palestine so i won’t comment on it” of course you don’t understand. most of us will never understand what it’s like to go for months without electricity, without water, without literal food. most of us won’t understand what it’s like talking to loved ones at lunch and then having to witness their bodies in body bags by dinner. no, you will never understand what that feels like—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care. that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t educate yourself. that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t donate. there’s only one thing uglier than willful ignorance—and that’s willful ignorance borne from selfishness and a severe lack of compassion. if you care anything about humanity as a concept, palestine should be your problem regardless of who you are, where you live, or where you’re from.

Ahmad Abdel Rahman says if bakeries had not re-opened their doors, many Palestinians would have been on the verge of losing their families to hunger. “We lived through difficult days, and no one looked at us. We were dying every day from starvation, from bombing, and from running behind the aid parachutes that the planes dropped over us. Aid was dropped from the aircraft into the sea,” he explained. “If we wanted to get food for our families, we had to go to the mouth of death, to the sea, to pick up the aid that fell there.”

“I hid from my children because of their constant insistence and requests for food. I used to tell them that I was going out to bring them food, but I would go to the house of one of my brothers and spend hours there until I was sure that my wife was able to force the children to go to sleep hungry and when they slept, my wife would send for me to come home. the term ‘child free’ in general rlly rubs me the wrong way. Like, someone deciding they don’t want kids is a morally neutral choice & one they have the right to make + that harms NOBODY around them, but we are as a Collective adult society responsible for the children who are around us in our communities and talking about kids + using phrasing that paints them as burdens is really obnoxious and not ok with me.

#something about more and more public spaces and event having to be child free while online content that is not for kids is more and more #easily available (porn or unsafe experiments in viral vids or violent content)#so it's like kids can't be in adult spaces but kids spaces also aren't free for kids???
