TA Mode
@shesasurvivor and I were kvetching about the lack of comprehensive reading skills we’ve seen lately, and after reading an incredible post by @lunaescribe that SAS sent me detailing how fandom seems to have transformed the way we read I’ve realized that—hey! My reading comprehension skills have steadily descended down the shitter too! And I was a fucking pro, I tell you. When I was in eighth grade I was a TA for ninth grade English and I continued to TA in college. But somewhere along the line I stopped reading. And when I did read, I didn’t read actively, or read works that challenged me. And I let my comprehensive skills sit on a shelf in the back of my brain next to high school French. I’ve been telling myself I burned myself out in grad school. Well ma’am, you’re six years out from grad school. You gave your brain a rest and now it’s all memes and TikToks.
The great thing about brains is they’re really good at relearning! It’s time to dust off those old synapses and get back to feeding the ol’ noggin something other than viral dance crazes. I’m going to try to document my journey here. Who knows if I’ll get any farther than this post because honestly, the brain is pretty mushy right now and the apathy, she is very real. But I’m gonna try. I’m not asking anyone to stick around for the possible ride because I’m really only doing this for myself.
I guess the reason I’m even telling anyone this is because this page still has a strangely large amount of followers for someone who only posts once every two years. And I’m letting you know now that I haven’t doodled a damn thing in all that time. I said I was getting back on the horse, I gave it a go, again—massive apathy going for the past five years! Probably not gonna be any silly doodles happening on this page. You’re not gonna hurt my feelings if you go (;
So let’s see if the TA is still in there somewhere.
