I hate loud colours. I find Batman boring, and the rainbow thing is far too on the nose for my liking. For my fiancé though, it is truly perfect. Dude keeps looking at it and almost crying.

It's a custom made wooden design. On the inside is an engraved quote from The Dark Knight Rises; Batman's words from below:

Catwoman: You don't owe these people anymore. You've given them everything. Batman: Not everything. Not yet.

Fucking weird post time

I currently have 1736 questions and some of them have been there for almost three years - I long ago lost the chase and, realistically, I'm never going to answer them all. I can't apologise enough if things got in the way to the extent that I'll never answer yours; what can I say, I'm a shit sometimes.

My life now is so different to how it was when I started this blog that I'm not even really sure how to write it anymore. I've gone from having the definition of nothing to being one of those knobs with a macbook, sipping coffee in his drama school hoodie. I'm aware that I basically wouldn't have anything I have now if it weren't for this place reviving the life in me, and I'm never going to really have a way to thank you all for that.

My crossroads is thus: I can give you guys the inside of what it's like to work in the theatre (which is a niche interest, I know) and let you into my personal life more, reblog a hell of a lot more than I ever used to, or I can do some rejigging then wander off into the distance, lying this place dormant as nothing more than an information source.

I dunno, man. What do you fancy?

Hey, I've seen your post on Mind Palaces and while my memory seems to trigger while just seeing or hearing words about a subject I might use it to help calm me down during a a panic attack. If I can really build a Mind Palace, since I don't need it as much for storing information, I could use it to stop panic by going home even if I can't really go home, which is one of my triggers. So I just wanted to say thank you so much for giving me another trick I could have for when I panic!

Hiya!

To be truthful I mainly use mine these days to manage my PTSD in this fashion, since the days of cramming for exams are behind me. It is a fantastic hideaway you’ve always got with you; I hope it calms your panic attacks as much as it does mine. Music is brilliant for me too, especially when you can feel yourself becoming overwhelmed but can remove yourself from the situation before shit goes down. A pair of noise-cancelling headphones will be the best thing you can ever buy yourself, trust me. Take careful of yourself; if you haven’t someone to talk to when this shit goes down then feel free to come to me.

As a hearing person, it is so important to educate yourself on deaf culture, particularly the complex issue that is cochlear implants.

It is a dividing discussion in the Deaf community (there’s even two different signs to use depending on whether or not you support the implants) and something you really should spend some time thinking about if you have ever seen one of these videos. (x)

The Imitation Game

I can't really give a comprehensive review as my brain's all muddled but I am disappointed with BC.

The film roughed me up both personally and professionally. The sad thing is that I was prepared to forgive the issues up until the last fifteen minutes or so, when everything rather spiralled. Both as a dramatist and a lifelong admirer of Turing I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing, right down to Kiera Knightley giving Joan Clarke the same 'oh my god' she gave in Bend In Like Beckham. In terms of his acting, BC flirted between astounding me and upsetting me. The boy really needs better direction and the let's-make-a-TV-movie feel of the entire thing is proof enough he wasn't gonna find it here.

I thought of a better framing device which wouldn't turn my Rory Kinnear adoration into something close to loathing within five minutes. On a purely emotional level, I genuinely found the depiction mildly acceptable up until all my worst fears came true, all the 'they can't do something that shit, surely' thoughts throughout which were finally thrust into our faces.

I didn't like what the filmmakers reduced him to. I really didn't like what they  reduced his colleagues to; at several points it was hard not to walk out in protest. Yes, they could have done a worse job (at least it's not a repeat of 2001), but my god they could've done it so much better, too. So it doesn't get my seal of approval; to be brutal, it gets my 'good enough' silent sigh. It gets confirmation that one day I'm going to better it.

Then again, if BC can't do it, I genuinely cannot conceive of a currently performing actor who can.

I was pretty incredible seeing an almost accurate Bletchley Park not reduced to ruins, though. Best thing in the film by far.

What are your thoughts on the trailer for The Imitation Game? Last I heard, you were really excited for it

Starting the ask backlog here as today’s the day.

I haven’t seen the trailer, truth be told. I actually do my best to avoid trailers, so I won’t be able to tell you what I think of it till I gather up the courage to go sit in a cinema. As you can imagine I’m still incredibly nervous, and it is really fucking strange to see BC’s face as Turing plastered all over Bletchley.

I’m nervous as ever but I firmly believe that if they were going to do this BC’s pretty much the only one in the world I’d trust with it. For me the bottom line really comes down to how sickeningly overdue Turing’s worldwide respect is (I could tell you so many awful stories about what they’ve done to Bletchley Park in my lifetime) and that he’s finally being recognised. Hopefully The Imitation Game will lead to similar recognition for Tommy Flowers and the many others whose work secretly saved our lives.

Even if they’ve not got things completely right, people will know. After a lifetime of constantly explaining who he was, I don’t think I’ll ever get over how intoxicating it is that I may never have to again; people will know.

Life is pretty much insane lately but thanks to a new job I've been able to get both a laptop and a smartphone so may end up tumbling more than I did in my original heyday. So many exciting things have been happening that I figured I'd start with something more mundane - the not-at-all intimidating steps leading in to my drama school. I figured this name would appeal to tumblr the most.
