When Diana Wynne Jones said “a heart’s a heavy burden”, and when Stuart Turton said “every life has such weight.”. Also, when Orhan Pamuk said “from tiny experiences we build cathedrals”, and when Carole Maso said “it is true: the world is a cathedral of light.”.

I’m thinking of how cathedrals are so heavy, like hearts. I’m thinking that our heavy humanness is a sign of light - something we should cherish. How it is filled with love, and tenderness, and hope. We carry such weight within ourselves that sometimes we don’t know what to do with it - it’s too much. But loving another being is a blessing. Having a heart filled with light, despite all the darkness and its cracks, is a miracle. It’s all supposed to be heavy. Cathedrals of tiny experiences, cathedrals made of love, a heart so full with love - we’re all Sophie giving back to Howl his heart (and how funny is that, in the beginning, it was said he stole hearts). We are constantly giving each other their hearts back. We keep receiving our hearts back.

It is true, then: the world is made of love and light.

Thinking about the Mark Twain quote: “Each season brings a world of enjoyment and interest in the watching of its unfolding, its gradual, harmonious development, its culminating graces—and just as one begins to tire of it, it passes away and a radical change comes, with new witcheries and new glories in its train. And I think that to one in sympathy with nature, each season, in its turn, seems the loveliest.
