Impermanent Sculptures

Vitor Schiettis paints with light in the Brazilian central plateau seeking to bring his thoughts from unconscious realms into existence. Capturing vibrant images of fireworks creating intriguing light sculptures integrated with the majestic landscape.

From the artist:

I deliver myself to the present moment when drawing these light sculptures, which only ever existed for the digital eye of the camera, never really being perceived as a whole by a human witness.

The series is the result of several years of research on long exposure photography. Only one or two pictures per day were allowed, since the time window for which this balance is possible is very narrow (20 to 40 minutes). The Brazilian central plateau, in a kind of savana called “Cerrado” was the scenery for most of these experimentations. The margins of the lake Paranoa, the streets and the National Museum of Brasilia were also locations for some of the light paintings.

By creating these images, which I refer to as Impermanent Sculptures, I draw the viewers attention to abstract concepts taking place in real environments. Concepts to be interpreted and explored freely by whomever this work reaches.

Stacked Timber Unit

Antwerp-based practice Studio Farris Architects has transformed a small barn in Flanders, Belgium into an office that features a meeting room, library, and desks. the building’s original façade was restored, before new openings were created to bring daylight inside the former stable. an updated interior has been fitted within the original volume, consisting of a shell that accentuates the structure’s pure form. this method both improves energy efficiency and avoids any chemical reactions with sulphates in the ground, or the original walls.

26-year-old painter Emma Lindström creates colorful swirls of awesomeness using a combination of acrylic and spraypaint. Though the artist is from Sweden, her work feels as though it came from an entirely different galaxy. Her paintings are nothing short of celestial — though the colors change piece to piece, she maintains the same galactic visuals that transcends our Earthly imaginations.

When it all comes down to it, my main goal is obviously to evoke some kind of emotion. Hopefully you can find something in my work that speaks to your inner self and the light that resides there…no matter what emotion you might get, the important thing is just that you are feeling something.

For more of Lindström’s work, follow her on Instagram and visit her official website.

The house immerses itself into the hillside and accentuates the distinct views of both Los Angeles and the Santa Monica mountain range. The two master bedroom modules hover above and further frame this unique condition. The swimming pool dramatically establishes the cliff’s edge, even extending beyond it at one end.
