Out of Labcoat;

I’m just checking in with @theengineer-fitz to scroll through old messages, and I just thought I would drop in and say this –

There are a lot of people out there who easily dismiss roleplaying as a hobby, classifying it as a waste of time or effort or so forth. However, it taught me some of my best writing skills, and I met my absolutely lovely and stunning girlfriend and best friend through this account (also @theengineer-fitz ). Your writing and your roleplaying is valid, and, who knows? The people you meet through it might become some of the most important people in your life.

I know Cate is certainly one of the most important people in mine. ♡

Hey guys! My apologizes for not being on the past few days - I’m drowning in homework, and I think there is a fair chance this blog will only be operating on the weekends. However, I look forward to the replies I currently have and the starters I will be writing!

Different…?”
He frowned, quickly shaking his head before                       looking at her directly again.
“Maybe, if that’s alright with you, we could skip the adventures, and just go straight to hugging?”
The fact that she’d been gone for months and it                       had taken this long just to even suggest hugging                       her and never letting go was ridiculous, really,                       but he’d seen his opportunity, and he was going to                       take advantage of it.
Image

Immediately, her thoughts fell away from any less than decent implications, and Jemma quickly realized that she was being completely inappropriate. Now was certainly not the time. However, there was a fair chance that she was saying everything she was, and therefore taking it much too far, as a coping mechanism. That was not an excuse, but it was an explanation.

                               “Yes, of course.”

With that, she stepped into his space, wrapping her arms around his waist and simply drawing him close. Her head fell upon his chest, and she turned ever so slightly so she could hear his heartbeat in his chest.

Fitz wasn’t an idiot, he was quite proud of that fact, so he knew enough to not outright say everything that was crossing his mind. However, that was only the case when his mind was actually working and not distracted by more of her skin, which his eyes immediately locked in on. In times like this, when his mind was far from working, he was worse than and idiot, and his words proved that.

“I was hoping that would give me a                            hint as to whether you prefer I kissed                            your lips or your neck.”

Image

His response left her completely baffled, her jaw falling just a bit slack in shock as she slowly blinked at him. It took Jemma a few moments to comprehend the implications behind his words, and, once she managed to do so, she was still unable to contextualize them with any other kind of evidence. Regardless, before she could carefully craft her words into a logical response, other words were spilling from her lips.

“I’m partial to neck kisses, but any kind             of kiss would be absolutely fine.”

That wasn’t supposed to come out like that, and yet Jemma still shifted so she was even closer to him.

A million different responses crossed his mind, and they only proceeded to get less appropriate as they went on. They started simple, just kisses before they went to figure out what exactly had happened, but then he’d let himself start wondering if her skin would feel as soft as it looked, and it was all downhill from there, really.

“There’s no chance this is a multiple                    choice question, is there?”

Image

The fact that he had to ask if it was multiple choice - and, by extension, ask for acceptable answers - forced Jemma to realize that there was a very slim chance that his current thinking aligned with hers, which would make whatever she was vaguely trying to get at might actually be an extremely slight possibility.

                                        “No, not really.”

Just out of pure curiosity, Jemma allowed the sheet to drift another inch or two lower.

“Last time we did that, it was when we joined Coulson’s field team.”
He let the words register with her before                          shaking his head again, leaving just enough                          of a pause that she might assume he was                          finished.
“That ended in us getting thrown in the ocean.”
Image

Jemma blinked a few times at his very literal translation of what she had said, amusement creeping onto her features as he explained his interpretation.

       “Different kind of adventure, Fitz.”

The sound of his name made him lift his head to look up at her eyes again, awkwardly clearing his throat to make up for the fact that he had been very obviously staring at skin that wouldn’t be open for him to see during a regular day in the lab. That was rude. That was really rude. That was rude and not ginger level rude.

                                                      “Yeah?”

Image

There was no doubt Jemma noticed where he was looking, and, oddly enough... she didn’t really mind. There was the matter of her own personal self- confidence, but she was flattered that he would even be intrigued.

“What do you want to do next?”

Originally, the question had the intent of following through with their previous discussion, but now there was a very blunt subtext that could not be denied.

He blinked again, pausing for a few moments and trying to keep his expression entirely neutral, even though that was getting increasingly difficult.
“Wouldn’t that potentially get the professor fired?”
Image

Jemma didn’t mean to roll her eyes.

It just kind of... happened. Of all the things he could be worried about in this hypothetical situation, it was of getting fired... and yet she wasn’t surprised in the absolute slightest.

“Potentially...      but sometimes you need to live life on the      edge, embark on an adventure.”

He knew she’d asked him something – logically, she must have – but there wasn’t anything he could say in response. His eyes were too busy roaming over the new skin she’d put on display, and his mind was too busy committing all of it to memory. There was no way he’d get his mouth to move and form a coherent sentence like this.
Image

Jemma became even more self-aware as he continued to practically stare at her, and she was torn between trying to modestly cover herself up so he could hopefully return to the conversation at hand or allowing the sheet to slip just a few more inches lower to see how that might affect him further...

What was she thinking?      They were friends.           Just friends.  He most certainly was not interested in her in that way.

“Fitz?”

Fitz stopped for a moment, eyes going slightly wider when her words started to sink in.
                                   “Wait, what?”
Image

Her smirk widened as she could practically see the gears turning in his mind as he attempted to figure out her statement.

“I said that nobody wants to            sleep with their insurance agent.”

There was a chance that the repetition of the statement might not exactly clarify things for him, so she expanded ever so slightly.

         “Professors, on the other hand...”

        “Alcohol?”

He tried to shrug again, rolling onto his side so that he could properly face her. There wasn’t really any other explanation he could come up with, especially not when he’d already gotten distracted by just her neck and shoulders again. Really, if she wasn’t covering herself with the sheet, he wouldn’t be able to process any thought at all, and that might not be an entirely terrible thing.
Image

Jemma felt a flurry of butterflies in her stomach as he turned to look at her more directly, shifting ever so slightly so she was just a little closer to him.

                                                   “Most likely.”

After taking a deep breath, she rolled onto her side as well so she could look at him more directly, her head propped up against her palm. The sheet slipped an inch or two as she did so, revealing just a bit more bare skin.

“So... what do we do now?”

It was hard not to smile, even when he was trying to sound completely serious, but he managed, somehow.
“I wasn’t going for professor. I was going for                       insurance agent. It was clearer when I had                       the jacket on, too.”
Image

He somehow managed to keep a straight expression, so she was determined to keep hers as well.

“Nobody wants to sleep with                                         their insurance agent, Fitz.”

Her expression shifted into an amused smirk as she waited for his brilliant mind to put all the pieces together.

Nodding his head, it took Leo a few moments to pull his gaze away from hers, not that there were many other places for his eyes to go. His only real options were her eyes and her shoulders, and it was all too easy to get distracted by the smooth skin there, which made it that much harder to meet her eyes again.

“You’re still partially dressed, aren’t you?                   I think we can assume that nothing like                   that happened last night.”

Image

As soon as he stated that he assumed they didn’t sleep together the previous night, Jemma once again was forced to avert her gaze so he wouldn’t be able to read everything written in her mind as he usually could. He had mentioned that it was a safe assumption that nothing had happened - did that mean he was so repulsed by the idea of sleeping at her that it was just automatically not an option?

Jemma shook her head, trying to shake it off. It didn’t matter anyway; they were just friends.

That being said...

“But what else could explain how                     we both ended up with in the same                    bed partially clothed with no memory                   of what happened the night before?”

There wasn’t a way to reply to her words, at least none that he could think of off the top of his head. How was he supposed to respond? It wasn’t like those were things she ever said to him before, in any context.
“Am I supposed to take dashing as a compliment?                       Or should I be offended, because you’re comparing                       me to a fictional archaeology professor from the ‘40s?”
Image

Jemma blinked at him a few times when he questioned the intent of her statement, perplexed as to how he could interpret ‘dashing’ as anything but a compliment.

“What else would it be - an insult?”

She took a deep breath, trying to resist the urge of rolling her eyes.

“Well, if you have a problem with being compared                                 to a fictional archaeology professor from the forties,                                 I would highly recommend that you don’t dress like                                 one.”
