Summary: Time wasn’t going to last forever. Not even for this.
Victor looked at her over the top of the file she had handed him almost ten minutes ago. She wanted to ask what he thought, she wanted to know. Needed to know, really. He was the person she had to impress at the end of the day. No way around it.
He sat the papers down, laying his hand against his desk, waiting. He knew she would break, he’d make sure of it. His eyes bore into hers, curiously, if only he knew what she was thinking.
A frown pulled at her face and she shifted in her seat, wetting her lips nervously. “S-so?”
“So?”
“You liked it?”
He smirked, “I didn’t dislike it.”
“But,” she persisted, “you didn’t like it?”
Victor stared back, his eyes softening as he studied her face, it was too easy to get her riled up, but how he loved the way her face flushed a soft pink, the way her eyes flashed to his, the way her voice rose ever so slightly. How he loved to get her angry.
“Just tell me,” she practically groaned, an ugly scowl on her face.
“I think it could be better,” he gave in, “but it will pass.”
Her shoulders tensed at the meaning of his words, she sat rigid as if she had been struck in the face. “Better?” She has poured every ounce of her soul into this proposal, it was a new show she wanted to make and in order to make it? She had to get the approval. LFGs approval, which, yes, could have been shown to the board but with Victor? Well, he always seemed to find a way to butt into her meetings.
She hadn’t slept for two days, barely ate for three and today? Running on no sleep and caffeine she felt a wave of nausea rock through her body at his words.
It could be better.
She was defeated, exhausted, and ready to crawl under the desk and hide. This was exactly what she wanted, it was the first show she was creating without a strict guideline, it was what she envisioned for something that would not only captivate the viewers but captivate herself.
She loved her job and her company, but something had been missing as of late. Her passion, she hadn’t felt the drive she had at the beginning of this crazy year, fighting for her place in the world and when she reached it? She felt not much else to strive for.
She heard her name from his lips and blinked back the shock, focusing on him to realize he had been talking.
“When will production start?”
But she didn’t feel like it should, his words rang through her head again, it could be better, and with a cringe she found her way to her feet.
“Where are you going?” Victor’s previous question lay forgotten as she stood up, this meeting isn’t over! He soon found the usual fire in her eyes wasn’t there, they were hollow. And he knew if eyes could talk these would be screaming. She turned without a word, heading towards the door, “wait!” He called but it was too late. Her hand was on the door handle and she was heading out, her name falling between them from his lips.
She pulled the door open slowly, not hearing him call for her. The only thing she could focus on was one word, better. It was running circles in her mind, or maybe that was her mind as she pulled the door open with a stumble.
His secretary looked up from her post, a wide smile plastered on her face, before a small scream came roaring from her mouth and the girl fell forward.
Without a thought the time froze, everything was on pause, she hung suspended in the air. She was left unprotected, her arms hanging loosely at her side, her legs like heavy weights dragging her down and then Victor had her in his arms and the world was spinning yet again.
The scream from his secretary cut off as Victor wrapped her in his arms, keeping her from the ground. He whispered her name softly, his eyes on her closed eyes before he glanced at his secretary, “call me a car, I’m taking her home.”
He didn’t bother with his suit jacket, or his phone, he merely walked her out of LFG and to the car, repeating her address from the many times he had taken her home. Granted those were much different car rides and often involved their endless banter but this was different.
He had been searching for the banter in his office, he longed for it. The witty remarks, her cute smirks and chuckles, the way she rolled her eyes when he called her an idiot. Now Victor was concerned, he thought maybe the hospital would have been a good choice, she did pass out, but nothing would take this moment from him, not even time itself.
He held her close, the car pulling them through town and it wasn’t until his eyes caught sight of her apartment building in the distance that she stirred.
She let out a loud gasp, her eyes growing wide as she searched the man holding her and Victor instinctively tightened his hold, “you’re fine, I have you.”
He almost cursed the words as soon as he said them but it was too late and she didn’t seem to even register he had said them, other than relaxing against his chest, her hand rubbing down his tie softly.
Victor studied her face, pale, dark circles under her eyes, sunken in cheeks, dry lips.... she had clearly not been focused on herself the past few days, not as much as she had been focused on the proposal it seemed.
Idiot. He thought sourly, maybe the first time he had truly meant those words.
“I don’t feel well,” she sighed, her mind was in a haze, she could barely focus or keep her eyes open.
“Have you been eating?”
She was too exhausted and defeated to be embarrassed by the fact that she hadn’t, when all she did was shake her head.
“Dummy.” He ‘tsk’ed, “I’ll cook you something at your place,” he added, softly, though it fell on deaf ears as she curled against his chest and closed her eyes.
He watched a smile cross her lips, his name coming out of her mouth like a breath, “Victor.” She whispered, curled against him. He felt the car stop, and looked away briefly to see her apartment in view, his heart hammering in his chest when he turned his eyes back to her.
She lay still and quiet in his arms, her fingers wrapped around his tie. And he did it, again. The driver got out of the car and as soon as the door was shut the world stilled. Victor could only hear her breathing, everything else was silent. They were safe, locked away from the world and together. She lay asleep in his arms, clutching to his body as she breathed his name again, “Victor.”
He felt himself smile, raising one hand to brush her hair back from her face and get a better view of her soft features. She was beautiful, even with the paleness and dark circles. She was beautiful, she was breathtaking.
Victor watched her sleep for a long time, he didn’t have an accurate judge of how long they had been there since his watch had stopped but it was long enough his legs were starting to hurt and he figured it was time to wake her up and get her inside so he could cook her the meal he promised.
She shifted softly in his arms and he shut his eyes lowering his head to brush his lips over her forehead with a whispered, “I love you.” It filled all the space in the car and seemed to hover around them like a cloud. Her eyes flashed open suddenly before quickly closing again when Victor sat up straight. He savored a few more moments and then the world was spinning again, his driver pulled his door open and Victor gave her a small shift, “are you okay to walk?” He asked when her eyes fluttered open.
She gave a nod, tired and stunned. His face looked soft, his eyes comforting as they searched hers and she glanced away feeling a little dazed, he loves me?
Victor helped her to her feet before climbing from the car, his hand around her waist, “come now, I’ll feed you.”
She swallowed roughly, stepping closer. Just slightly. She wanted this feeling to last, she wanted him to stay, she wanted to feel safe like she did just moments ago when she was tucked into his arms the short drive to her place. Though, she felt she had slept hours, she felt way better than before. Her mind was more clear and she was more relaxed.
Though the conclusion of their meeting was weighing heavily on her mind, it could be better. She hated to think it, but all that came to her was the fact she felt that was all she had to offer, that was everything she wanted and he - Victor - thought it could be better? It wasn’t good enough? Nothing ever was when it came to him.
She stood at the door, unlocking it quickly before welcoming him in, “would you like a drink?”
“I’d like you to get comfortable and relaxed,” he made motion towards her bathroom, “I’ll make dinner, then after you eat we will talk about today.”
She nodded quickly, excusing herself and leaving him to her barely used kitchen. She closed the door to the bathroom behind her, leaning heavily against the door, I love you, too. She thought to herself, shutting her eyes and brushing her fingertips over her forehead where he kissed her, Victor.

It would be really satisfying if we could just take our spine out, oil it, crack it and then put it back.
Anyone else notice how the akumas of season two have REALLY geared up?
The Collector. Aside from being a genius way of making himself above suspicion, the Collector was an incredibly dangerous akuma and Ladybug and Chat Noir won by the skin of their teeth.
Despair Bear. In the vein of Volpina, Hawkmoth created a villain who used strategy and subtly as opposed to just charging in and demanding the Miraculous. Hell Despair Bear almost made Chat use Cataclysm on Ladybug!
Prime Queen. She avoided direct confrontation instead using ultimatums to appeal to Ladybug and Chat Noir’s heroism to get the Miraculous. Also she straight up threatened to murder Chloe and Alya.
Befana. Befana was more a standard villain. Though she did employ minions as others have done before to avoid a two on one confrontation as most villains do.
Riposte. Damn. Riposte was deadly and probably the most willingly to actual kill Ladybug and Chat Noir. Also the whole idea of the akuma being in her sabre and it being fused with her hand so it had to be forcibly broken off was a stroke of genius.
Robostus. He turned AGAINST and almost killed Hawkmoth. What else needs to be said?
Gigantitan. While it was a mistake, akumatizing a baby, someone who doesn’t have full control of their mental faculties, into an 80 foot giant was dangerous as hell.
Dark Owl. Literally the closest to winning. Volpina almost forced Ladybug to take off her earrings twice but Dark Owl took one of them himself by force. He also employed strategy again, appealing to Ladybug and Chat’s heroism to do the right thing and ultimately this was a trap, the only reason he didn’t win being that Ladybug had a back up plan.
Not only have season two’s akumas been mad dangerous but the episodes have shaken up the series formula; all bets are off with each new episode. Characterisation and character growth, plot arcs? Season two has been worth the wait. And there’s still more to come; new superpowers, new heroes, new miraculous!
