My favorite thing about Tangled: The Series is that they looked at Eugene and went "Okay, this guy's been a career criminal most of his life let's do something with that." Also that he's goofy and self centered like in the movie but also actually competent. In the movie his bragging all feels a bit like posturing but the show went "No, he was actually that good."

Current fav tlou head cannon;

Ellie being on the road with only Joel (a man from Texas who managed to keep his southern accent for two decades) for so long, literally her only company, she adapts his accent for certain things and forgets how they're pronounced to non southerners.

Based off the fact I experience echolalia with my step-dad who has a southern accent himself.

It wouldn't be major, just some "ain't"s and drawls on certain vowels, sometimes losing syllables and mushing her sentences together.

She doesn't realise until Dina calls her "Texas" jokingly and she's then hyper aware of it. She speaks and will notice afterwards that she pronounced something like Joel, and repronounces it.

"I ain't doing it-...I am not doing it."

this gives such strong father-daughter energy.

ellie’s question is like a kid asking their parent to push them on the swing, or give them a piggyback ride.

and joel’s response is as if they’ve known each other for years, and not just two years like they have. it’s just such a dad response. he’s answering it as if he’s watched her grow up (which he kinda has for a while now), but like for much longer than two years.

“oh, i’m too old for that now. i can’t give ya’ rides like i used to when you were a kid” and they’ve literally known each other for only a couple years by this point.

i’ve literally had interactions like this with my parents. “remember when you and i used to do this…?” and they’ll be like “yeah, but i’m definitely too old and you’re too big for that now” in a reminiscent sort of way.

joel is dad. and don’t even get me started on the “kiddo”

i’m back to break y’alls hearts.

i so wish we were able to see a real, just natural joel and ellie hug. like no arguing, no trauma, just like everyday hugging.

don’t get me wrong, i love the two that we do get because the both of the them carry so much of their own emotion. the first one being silverlake. literally such a perfect scene, i love this hug so much, but it’s a result of such a traumatic experience and ellie isn’t able to reciprocate for obvious reasons. just lean in.

and then we have the one where joel finds ellie after she ran away. again, i love it and we even get a little head kiss from joel. sobbing. but again, this time, it’s followed by a fight and the rift between them begins.

in both of these hugs, ellie doesn’t reciprocate. joel initiates both. neither of them are a hug hug if you know what i mean.

and then to break your heart a little more, the next time we see ellie hug someone, it’s tommy, after joel died. and this time, she hugs back, burying her head into tommy’s shoulder and closing her eyes against tears.

i can only imagine that she so badly wished it was joel she was hugging. just one more time. maybe she wished that she hadn’t shut him out or taken his hugs for granted. she closed her eyes and willed it to be joel instead, but he’s dead and she’ll never be able to hug him again. with how comfortable joel was with coming up and hugging her before their fight, in the image above, i can only imagine that they did hug regularly, we just didn’t get to see it.

and i think when ellie hugged tommy, she would’ve done anything for it to be joel instead. just one last time.

“One of the most solid pieces of writing advice I know is in fact intended for dancers – you can find it in the choreographer Martha Graham’s biography. But it relaxes me in front of my laptop the same way I imagine it might induce a young dancer to breathe deeply and wiggle their fingers and toes. Graham writes: ‘There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.’”

I love this!! 💛🥰

Update: I continue to work on all things! Nothing is abandoned! New chapters will come!

The actual, fun and exciting update: I'm going to start recommending a few AMAZING TLOU fics that you might have missed on my blog every Saturday for the next while.

I hope you find some new great reads to keep you going while we wait for season 2 - our fandom is seriously so freaking talented, and there are SO many incredibly written fics out there that I want to yell about a bunch of them! Please reblog!

These fics will vary re: how closely they stick to canon and what themes they explore, but you can expect them all to be wonderfully written and, obviously, heavily feature Joel Miller.

Some of these, including this weeks, may include mature content - make sure to read and heed the trigger warnings listed on ao3!

I have never really been interested in fan fiction with OCs, so I missed out on this week's recommendation for a long time and I bet a lot of you did too. It's both a wonderfully told Joel love story and a fic that, in my opinion, really honours the world and characters of TLOU.

Go Your Own Way by @chronicallyonlinewriter 232,575 words || 31 chapters rating: mature [see ao3 tags for full content warnings] featuring: post season/game 1 life in Jackson, angst, fluff, action, romance, smut, plenty of protective Joel and parent Joel

You can check out a review from @march-flowerr below, describing some of what makes this story so special: (vague general spoilers re: themes and mature content)

no language should be mocked other than french

Birds is “oiseaux” in French.

No letter is pronunced the way it should.

And there are seven of them.

ITS PRONOUNCED “WAZO” AND YES, I WILL DIE MAD ABOUT IT

oiseaux hits every vowel in the french alphabet and manages to only be pronounced with 2 goddamn syllables

got vowels coming out the oiseaux
