did anyone else ever find it odd how easily zeus offered percy godhood? and how it almost seemed like he secretly wanted percy to accept? well i did, and after thinking long and hard about it…

i don’t think percy understood what turning down godhood really meant

demigods do tasks for the gods because they don’t have to follow any rules. they aren’t controlled by anyone or anything. demigods are a strange hybrid - not god, not human. they are in between the laws of immortal and mortal. they are not supposed to exist. yet they do, which is what makes them so extraordinary.

percy is crazy powerful. of course, there’s the aspect of raw power. he has domain over air (storms/hurricanes), land (earthquakes and volcanic eruptions), and sea (monster waves, tsunamis, floods, basically anything that involves water.) he can control bodily fluids. he has super strength (with one hand, he held up an unconscious annabeth who was being pulled down by both arachne AND the forces of tartarus). he has super speed (he moves faster than bullets in TTC). no matter how badly you hurt him, he automatically heals and regenerates the second he touches water (an ability no other demigod has). he’s an extraordinary swordsman. very skilled in combat and warfare. he’s smart, and thinks of plans quickly. but he also has a great deal of social/poltcial power… i mean, he’s a leader and hero to both the greek and roman camps. if he says “attack,” all demigods, greek or roman, attack. no question. do you have any idea how threatening that is to the olympians? he’s also best friends and has an empathy link with the lord of the wild, which basically means all of nature is by his side too, including all land creatures. he’s also prince of horses, which means pegasi too (both of which are extremely useful in battle). and of course all sea creatures, including the mythical ones like krakens and leviathans. not to mention many of the gods really like him. hermes, hephaestus, athena, aphrodite, and dionysis have all gone out of their way to help him. artemis holds him in high regard, especially since he saved her. apollo literally considers him his friend! and poseidon - his dad, the god who is the biggest threat to zeus - is fiercely protective of him and cares about him a great deal. many minor gods also like him because he demanded them to be given more respect and for their kids to be welcomed at the camps.

percy unknowingly has more power, both physical and social/political, than anyone should ever have. he may have absolutely no idea, but it must scare the living daylights out of zeus. by accepting zeus’s offer to become a god, percy would have submitted himself to the control of zeus. zeus would be his king and ruler. zeus would then have complete control over him.

but percy said no. therefore, percy remains out of zeus’s control.

percy had no idea what he was doing. but thank the gods he made that choice. thank the gods he’s an incredible person. thank the gods percy jackson has no desire for power, because he has more of it than anyone should ever be able to have.

i don’t think percy

understood what turning down

godhood really meant

The creator of these images is Matt Bernstein, one of my favorite educators online -- he makes incredibly clear, forceful collections of information like this one. He's queer, has fantastic nails, and has done a lot of education recently from his perspective as a Jewish person on why supporting Palestine is so important. Here's a link to this post, which he created for World AIDS Day on 12/1/23.

I met a girl in camp once who was wearing very fancy blue socks with red octopuses on them that matched her curly red hair, so I complimented her outfit and she was like "hold the fuck on" and proceeded to roll up her pant leg and show me that she had a massive matching octopus TATTOO on her leg and then I asked her what she did for a living and she said she's a marine biologist and I was sitting there like. Of fucking course you are

UPDATE: Frozen Chicken for Ramadan!

Hussam managed to secure and buy 100 frozen 1.3kg chicken to the camps on his land and will work on another chicken run for the next camp! This is great news because people are lacking a lot of nutrients and protein so these will help them get a bit of their energy back!

Also, food cans are always available to everyone who needs them. People come to request food cans of meat and other things. But Hussam's team managed to distribute 1000 cans 2 days ago.

And! Diapers when available are also purchased and distributed on the spot to those who needs them.

Thank you so much for everyone who donates and spreads the word. You have no idea how much you're helping Palestinians right now!!

ID: [The first photo is of boxes filled with frozen chicken packages. The second and third are pictures of Hussam's team distributing the chicken.]

is herobrine behavior/lore not common knowledge anymore …. has the world really forgotten about the 2x2 tunnels .. trees with their leaves all gone … the sand pyramids in the ocean … the herobrine shrine that would apparently summon him … the lost to time brocraft hoax livestream that further popularized herobrine as a concept (of which herobrine was just a painting from a texture pack, later removed to which the streamer would continue to act freaked out until the end) .. the original forum post from sometime in august 2010 that detailed encounters with a pseudo-player in the distance on a singleplayer world which included this screenshot

does anyone even care at all. about a herobrine so small

but you left off the best response to his tweet:

Every year the Girl Scouts would come to my door, and their sales pitch was, “Would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies? They’re made with real Girl Scouts”.

I have no idea who told them to quote the Addams Family, but it worked every damn time.

When I was a girl scout doing sales in front of grocery stores they taught us to be friendly and cheerful to people going into the store but to only ask if people would like to buy cookies when they were leaving because:

  1. It meant they knew what their budget was after buying food
  2. They possibly still had their wallets in their hands and that made it an easier impulse buy
  3. They wouldn’t get annoyed about getting asked on their way in and the way out (especially since we kept tables at both exits of the store)
  4. They just spent a bunch of money on food and the $3 (i am old) box of cookies looks less expensive when you’re leaving after paying a bigger bill

It was a wonderful example of being conniving as fuck while also being polite and putting people at ease, and was extremely educational for me in terms of selling things.

The way that most people used to tell us “no” was “sorry, I don’t have cash” and we weren’t ever supposed to argue with that, but I have been very amused to hear the girl scouts at the local market saying “That’s okay, we take Venmo!”

The agonising feel when a character tag is full of shipping that you Simply Do Not Vibe With. The solution is, naturally, to keep scrolling. But the wince, the WINCE.

i feel this on a regular basis tbh

"I support everyone's right to ship whatever!" I say aloud, while hissing like a cat at some of the things that cross my dash.

My dad and I once had a disagreement over him using the adage "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

I said, "That's just not true. Sometimes what doesn't kill you leaves you brittle and injured or traumatized."

He stopped and thought about that for a while. He came back later, and said, "It's like wood glue."

He pointed to my bookshelf, which he helped me salvage a while ago. He said, "Do you remember how I explained that, once we used the wood glue on them, the shelves would actually be stronger than they were before they broke?"

I did.

"But before we used the wood glue, those shelves were broken. They couldn't hold up shit. If you had put books on them, they would have collapsed. And that wood glue had to set awhile. If we put anything on them too early, they would have collapsed just the same as if we'd never fixed them at all. You've got to give these things time to set."

It sounded like a pretty good metaphor to me, but one thing I did pick up on was that whatever broke those shelves, that's not the thing that made them stronger. That just broke them. It was being fixed that made them stronger. It was the glue.

So my dad and I agreed, what doesn't kill you doesn't actually make you stronger, but healing does. And if you feel like healing hasn't made you stronger than you were before, you're probably not done healing. You've got to give these things time to set.

The thing about Cottagecore is that is a fetishized aesthetic of country life, divorced from labor and idealized by a primarily urban audience with a backward looking ethos of tradition. They are not prepared for the stresses of a rural life: farming; harvesting; tapping pumpkins to ensure none of them have been replaced with flesh; losing out on income by having to use one of your pigs in a blood sacrifice to paint protective sigils over your doors and windows; checking cracks and chimneys for the flesh-vines of the Pumpkin Lord; having to decide, before the Growth is complete, whether that's really your tradwife or an amassment of vines, leaves, and blood in the shape of your tradwife; ignoring their desperate pleas that "I'm me! No! No!" as you burn them alive, realizing too late you picked wrong; and the exploitative corporate nature of commercial farming in 2024. All seen through a deeply colonial lens, of course
