To all the parents out there who bundle their babies up in the winter time with those little hats with the little ears that make them look like little teddy bears: You are doing the lord’s work. Seeing tiny ewoks toddle across the grocery store parking lot is just what we all need sometimes. My joy is immeasurable and my day is restored.

they're always bringing experts or activists on the news to agitate about porn and there's a standard script for this that's like "I think sex education is important, I'm not anti-sex, but so much of this porn is violent and misogynistic if not outright illegal, and it's far too accessible to our children"

I want to see someone finally be brave enough to say that the government should just make its own porn for teenagers that accords with community values, so they don't have to go to these shady places to get it. I think the government porn would probably be pretty bad but I would be so eager to hear about the process of designing it. there would be so many stakeholders and consultations. in canada it would have to be bilingual

this is my post. do you know how it feels to have this be your post? do you understand the guilt i have to live with knowing this is my post? the weight on my soul as the decade popped into prominence with spanish flu …  2 !

do you know how it feels, heritageposts? are any of these heritage posts your own or are you just a curator of human misery? do you know how it feels to live knowing that of anything i’ve ever made, anything i’ve ever said, this has been seen by most people, and this will probably remain the case until i die? for this to be my legacy? can you relate? can you empathize?

but do you want to know the worst part? the absolute worst part of all of this?

we haven’t even brought back art deco into mainstream prominence. sickening

Skip Google for Research

As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms

As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.

Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.

Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.

www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.

www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.

https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.

www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.

www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.

www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.

www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

It’s too fitting.

Goro knows he’s staring. He’s been staring since they’d opened the Meta-Nav, watching the glitzy lights bouncing off Akira’s hair, skin, clothes, as they walked toward Sae’s palace. Akira had strode ahead, unbothered by the metamorphosis of the courthouse.

Blue flames had swept over them like a paintbrush on canvas once they’d snuck inside, retreating from Akira’s figure before Goro could register what was happening.

The more Akechi thought about it, the more infuriating it was - Maruki’s reality where everyone is just handed their perfect little life. Ryuji and his track dreams. Ann and her best friend. Futaba and her sappy, domestic happily ever after. Yusuke with whatever it was that nutcase desired. There were others too, but Akechi didn't feel like recalling their names. It hardly mattered. Their lives as Phantom Thieves - blissfully and conveniently forgotten. How tragic. That was the only thing that made any of them remotely interesting. Puppets, now. He scorned their compliance, but wasn't surprised; he always knew Akira surrounded himself with simpletons that would easily bend to the will of anything benevolent without question.

But then there was Akechi - no need for pretense any longer, he could sneer and curse as he pleased. He could smoke like a chimney and wear a scowl like a crown. He could leave footprints in the snow and not give a fuck if anyone followed him anymore. So he did.

And then there was Akira; Akechi’s in a way no one else could have him. And then there was a world where they could sleuth and solve and slink their way around. Just the two of them. There was a world without Shido’s agenda. A world without its need for Akechi’s gods-bestowed gift — and a world where only Akira could see it. Share in it.

And there, in the streets of Kichijoji, Akechi realized swiftly that Maruki's little stunt didn't exclude them. They weren't outliers. Despite their mutual cognizance, they still lived in his world. It was enough to stop him dead in his tracks, oblivious to the dusted snow piling up on the shoulders of his peacoat as he stood motionless under a streetlamp.

That he did have a desire beyond defeating Shido...and it was this. Waking up to texts from Akira. Falling asleep after calls with him - Calls where Akira confided. Where he griped. Where he admitted his worries, his concerns, his doubts. To him. Calls where sometimes they barely spoke. Calls where sometimes not a word was said. Just breathing, in and out, watching the snow fall from their respective bedroom windows. Silent like soldiers in a bunker, waiting for war in a world that had no use for it.

Akira was his, in a way he wasn't before. In a way only Akechi could see. No one was in his way, anymore. Nothing stood between them. No gods. No false deities. No agenda. No pretense. All they had was each other, lurking in the shadows of a world in which they - and only they - knew better.

Which meant, Akechi realized with a chill that seized him more than winter's wind whipping at his coat:

This was Akira's desire, too

The way I wrote this on a whim on my phone while overseas before I knew what 2/2 was

Well fellas. Last week I played 2/2 and now I understand why everyone’s tags said “ow”

I thought I was just being cute fr 😭

Love that he also types like an old man

His name is spelled Jonathan.

His birthday is September 4.

His age was estimated at the time he was found in 1882. This species matures at around 50 years old and he was past that age, so he might be older than 189 but we will never know.

He lives on a South Atlantic island, Saint Helena (aka the place Napoleon Bonaparte lived until his death in 1815) where he’s well taken care of by the governor of the island. According to his vet, he likes listening to tennis.

The average lifespan for his species is 150, but he’s super healthy aside from cataracts in both eyes and possible loss of smell.

Jonathan has a mate, Fred, who until recently was thought to be female. Fred is male.

His species (which is a subspecies of Aldabra giant Tortoise) are on the endangered list with only about 80 recorded worldwide. However, many giant Tortoises currently hold the record for longest living land animals with a few others’ ages ranging between 175-250 years. So Jonathan still has a while to go!

Here’s Jonathan (on the left) in 1882 upon his arrival to the island:

(photo courtesy of Guinness World Records)

Jonathan has lived through both world wars, the Russian Revolution, 39 U.S. presidents, 7 British monarchs, the creation of the typewriter, the completion of the Eiffel Tower, the coronation of Queen Victoria, the release of the first postage stamp, the building of the first skyscraper, the first photograph of a person, the first lightbulb, and the first powered flight.

According to Wikipedia Jonathan is still alive as of this writing 10/21/22, and as of 2022 is the oldest tortoise of recorded age ever, the previous contender having died at 189 in 1966.

the goncharov nonsense™ is showcasing one of my favourite tumblr features, where a post is successful but doesn't really spark anything more for months to years and then one day people just randomly go "hey that was funny" and it's #1 trending almost immediately

Nah I getchu. So this post has been circulating for like a year:

But yesterday, it had inspired someone to do this:

Meta analysis. So many fake meta essays. Disturbingly good ones. And of course the memes.

As you can see, the myth just started to grow, characters and ships and tropes being added one after the other, almost bizzarely without contradiction, until there was enough of shape to the whole thing for people to start posting fanfic about it on AO3. "Ice-pick Joe" has already become a meme tag.

It was hilarious in the beginning, but the way it's developed within less than a day, kind of like it's being willed into existence, is freaking me out a bit. We're toying with powers beyond our comprehension. 😂😂😂

Of course, there could be an ulterior motive as well.

Twitter's copyright system is currently broken and people are uploading the entire movies and episodes of TV shows without having them taken down

Who can we piss off with this to get muskrat in the most trouble

Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to record and upload the entirety of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to Twitter.
