Ok but in this scene Kaneki is putting his hand not to his face but to cover his eye his ghoul eye. He didn’t want Hide to see his ghoul side because he was still afraid of what Hide would think of him. Its a desperate act to hide the part of him that he hates because he desperately doesn’t want Hide to hate him. And Hide sees and understands what Kaneki is doing and you can see it breaks Hides heart to think that Kaneki could ever believe that he’d ever do anything but love and accept Kaneki for who he is.

If you look from this angle Hide isn’t dead.
