" I was just getting ready to excuse myself to go find you, actually." As much as he enjoyed parties like this, the captain enjoyed spending time with his wife much more, and after this last particular battle, he wanted to spend as much time with her as he could. Weddings were common enough - he was sure there was at least one more in his future, if the way that the Avatar and Asami were eying each other had anything to do with it.

" Yeah- too many vegetables on those for my liking." He’d had one of, course, but ended up passing the vegetables off to Rohan when he’d wandered by. " This champagne is nice, though."

"Were you now?" She leaned against him, slipping an arm around him and landing a kiss on his cheek. "How very noble of you, to come find your poor, uncomfortable wife in this crowd." But there was some truth behind her sarcasm, as there always was, and she grinned a little wider.

"Varrick has good taste in alcohol, I’ll give him that." A surprise, considering she preferred much stronger than the bubbling drink usually. "And in music, actually. This is nice."

" He does. This party is much more tasteful than I was expecting. Excluding the buff guys in nothing more than furs, of course, though I'm enjoying that too." He turned his head to the side and stood up just a bit so that he could press a kiss of his own to her cheek and then settled back against her, head on the other metal bender's shoulder.

" You know, it's nice being able to just relax for once." Saikhan commented, taking another pull from his champagne. " I could get used to this."

" Am I right in saying that the only reason you’re still here is because of a certain meddling sister of yours?" Saikhan asked jokingly, shooting a glance towards the dance floor where he could see the woman in question currently twirling her husband around, the both of them laughing.

His mouth twitched up into a smile.

He took a sip from his glass as he turned to stand beside her and slipped an arm loosely around her waist. ” Oh, very much. Have you eaten anything yet? The octopus fritters are great.”

"Oh, she certainly had something to do with it." Oh come on, Lin, it’s a party! Have some fun! Show off your new outfit! I’m sure you and your husband could have some fun dancing.

Sure. Once he’d had his fill of the buffet. She snorted at that thought.

"I had one of those weird kebab things." She took a sip of her own champagne. "It wasn’t as bad as it looked, really. Could have used a bit more meat."

" You know, the kebabs were nice, but what I really enjoyed most about that wedding were all the very attractive waiters in skimpy outfits. I really enjoyed that part.”

"Varrick Global Industries is coming out with a new line of fashion based on the Nuktuk franchise… It was one of the things we had to compromise on. I’m… glad you’re enjoying yourself, at least."

" Oh, I'm enjoying myself very much. And the food is amazing- was it your choice or Varrick's? Regardless, its fantastic."

" It’ll catch on if anyone hears you, you know." But he lifted his glass and took a drink anyway, grinning over at the elder woman crookedly. " It’s good to see you, Aunt Toph."

回—— "Don’t hold your breath. I’m the only one who gets to call you that." Taking a healthy swig from her glass, she sighed and leaned back into the chair, taking in the familiar smell of the apartment. It had been a while since she’d been here, but it seemed nothing much had changed.

    Toph’s expression softened as she addressed the man she’d raised like a son.

回—— "It’s good to see you too, Saikhan."

He snorted loudly, ducking his head to hide his smile even though no one in the apartment could see him. Lin and Suyin and her family were all asleep, and it was only him and Toph and the dog sitting out in the kitchen. Everything seemed so much lighter now, now that the threat of death and devastation had been lifted from all of their shoulders.

He lifted the glass to his lips and took a long sip - it was strong, but sweet enough to hide it. The only types of liquors he enjoyed straight, if he were being honest.

" Lin and Su said that you showed up to help with the rescue mission - I would have been there, but Lin - you know Lin." He shrugged his shoulders, and reached down to scratch Chief's head, as she began nosing at his knee for attention. " I thought I'd missed out on a chance to see you."

 ” I need a fucking drink. And a hat- I think that giant mecha made my hairline recede some more.”

"Here… This might grow a bit of that hair back too."

" Oh, if only. Thanks, Meg."

" How are you and the kid doing? All in one piece?"

"i-… I think so… I don’t know honestly anymore." 

"Baba…. you aren’t…. still mad at me are you?"

" Kid- I'm just glad you're okay. I'm sorry that things have been... Well."

" You're my daughter, and I love you. And I am so relieved that you and Ekkou are okay."

"And then the city was destroyed again."

" We need a vacation, Lin."

" A long one."
