DESIGNS: Tenchi Muyo vs. Ai Tenchi Muyo

Ryoko

Ryoko has always had puffed long sleeves, and signature spiky blue hair.  Her outfits normally have a long dress, sometimes showing her legs, but only with stockings.  Only her battle costume has her sans-dress.  In the Ai Tenchi Muyo design, her hair is much flatter, losing her signature style.  She is also a lot more scandily clad, showing her thighs and wearing high heels.  She’s also considerably more tall.

Tenchi

Tenchi, since he’s lived in Japan and on Earth most his life, wears mostly Japanese style clothes.  Tenchi can be distinguished by his round face shape, short spiky hair with the little tail in the back.  In Ai Tenchi Muyo, he trades his signature look for very plain teacher’s clothing, and glasses.  His round face is much less noticeable, and his tail looks more like thin ponytail.

DESIGNS: Tenchi Muyo vs. Ai Tenchi Muyo

Ayeka/Aeka

Ayeka has a regal look about her, also donning a Japanese-inspired look.  Her outfits usually are kimono/dress like, with baggy sleeves, or long sleeves, and wearing tabi-style socks.  Because she’s refined and fairly reserved, she hardly wears revealing clothing (and only does so in fantasy or dreams; like her S&M alter ego).  In Ai Tenchi Muyo, her clothing is less colorful, and she shows off one of her legs.  She’s also wearing flat shoes.  She sports a bracelet, and her long hair tendrils look much thicker.  The pose is somewhat out of character as well, as she tends to be prim and proper  (at least that’s what she normally shows).

Sasami

Sasami’s original clothing is a somewhat simplified version of what her sister Aeka wears, with flat shoes and long sleeves.  Since she is the cook of the Masaki household, she sometimes wears an apron as well.  In an alternate universe, she is the magical girl Pretty Sammy.  In Ai Tenchi Muyo, she is wearing a version of the Pretty Sammy uniform, that is much more simplified, and it no longer has the obi.  The boots end up looking more like long socks.  Her hair is also not as parted in the middle like the original design and looks flatter.

Mihoshi

Mihoshi is the most casual of the group, as she wears the most normal looking clothes of the girls.  She’s most often seen wearing a pink tank, and beige long pants.  Her signature look is dark brown skin, blonde wavy hair tied in a ponytail, and long ears.  Her other look being a Galaxy Police Officer uniform.  In Ai Tenchi Muyo, she sports a bunny girl costume, though missing the bunny ears.  Her skin is also considerably lighter.

Washu

Washu, the greatest scientific genius in the universe!  Included above is also one of her Pretty Sammy looks, and her as a grown up.  She’s usually seen wearing shorts, with stockings, and layered short sleeve and long sleeve shirts.  Sometimes with a scientist coat, and sometimes even a nurse for fun!  In Ai Tenchi Muyo, she wears a revealing short red dress, strapped to some long purple boots.  And a scientist coat.  The most noticeable difference is that her signature big, long “crab hair” is completely gone in the new design.
