My latest article for Digitsu is up! It elaborates on this meme I wrote a few months ago. I’m very happy it resonated with so many people. I hope it helps you explain to your non-BJJ friends why you’re so interested in this stuff! Screencap from my semifinals @ibjjf Pan Ams last year by I think @ritalynne (?). @digitsuonline with @repostapp.

general life advice: - respond don’t react - you’ll find it when you stop looking - you can’t overuse the phrase ‘thank you’

- someone else’s happiness should not come at the cost of your own - you can’t save people who don’t want to be saved - food should not be assigned moral value (i.e. ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods)

- tell the people you love that you love them (and do it often)

- smile to strangers, all the time

- be gentle with yourself like you would be with a small child

-don’t let your feelings color your every action -don’t take pieces of advice from friends for granted -do be radically honest in everything you say and do

- the only person you can control is yourself - saying things out loud helps make them true "I'm going to have a good day" "I'm going to have a bad day" - when something really bothers you, see if it is something you do. That's your ego talking. (4) let go

Five year old: “What’s on your knee?” Me: “It’s a knee brace.” Five year old: “Why?” Me: “I hurt it.” Five year old: “Where?” Me: “At practice, for judo.” Five year old: “Are you going to sit out at practice now?” Me: “I hope not.” Five year old: “Have you told your teacher it hurts?” Me: “It doesn’t hurt too bad. I’m going to be okay.” Five year old: *touches my face with her tiny hand* “It’s important to tell teachers when you don’t feel good.”

This 5 year old is smarter than me.

get a hobby, work on a skill, find a passion. Do something that will make you word hard and be disciplined, make you proud to do it.

you dont even have to be the best at, just work as hard and as smartly as u can at it.  Whether its fitness, music, writing, visual art, academics, something.

thats whats gonna give you pride in yourself and confidence.

being happy all the time, and having self confidence doesnt just come out of nowhere, especially in a world as harsh, unforgiving, critical and shallow as this one.

Great advice!

I do believe that happiness comes from our skill. Even on a very basic level.

yes sir!!
