Damn.

Nina was such a powerful artistic voice during a time when people needed her. We need more artists like this willing to speak up for the disenfranchised.

Like if you’re gonna watch her documentary on netflix

5 Nina Simone Moments That Will Have You AMPED for Liz Garbus’ Doc

Nina. Nina. There are no words. That’s why I made GIFs.

Can we talk about that one time she called a guest out at her concert and told her to sit her butt back down after she tried to leave?

Apparently she was good friends with David Bowie...which earned Bowie like 1,000 cool points! After getting word that he was in the audience at one of her concerts, she simply walked center stage and asked him to show himself.

As a self-proclaimed protest singer, Nina made it her goal to emphasize the beauty in blackness and wanted to compel us to explore our history. Props.

Except for those who “are hip...”

This moment is one of my absolute favorites. After which she spoke more about knowing that was blessed with the gift of music by God since she was born. Amen!

If you’re not super amped to see her documentary out on netflix, watch this trailer then this ENTIRE performance!

I’ll be seeing Liz Garbus’ latest work at the americanfilminstitute / americanfilm AFI Docs Fest on June 19th or 20th--check here for ticket details.
