Haven’t made a post about Starbound in a loooong time. don’t be mistaken though, I haven’t quit playing it. It’s just that I haven’t come up with anything to post about. During the last few days I’ve been working on a Novakid-themed town and I decided to make a post to show you how it has been going.

Last night on Starbound I made my home planet on an ocean and I terraformed it to be kinda swampy and it was near spawn and people would teleport down and I’d be playing All Star by Smashmouth in the distance, and as they got closer, I’d get ready to ask them what they were doing in my swamp.

Here’s  a few questions about quality and durability that I have gotten when getting asking about badge commissions, which are important when the product is going to be worn around at a con. Here’s a PSA about perler work and the work I do. Luckily I have been experimenting with different bead brands and now know there is a HUGE disparity in brands and quality of bead. Here’s  why…

Perler PSA 1 of 2, Quality:

The brand I use melts smoothly and clean not distorting other beads around it. Look at the off-brand on the left, it bubbles and distorts even affecting the higher quality beads around it. (The black beads were the higher quality brand.) Also the off-brand on the left, sticks to the ironing paper and doesn’t melt evenly, leaving holes and wrinkles all across the preler project of Catbug here.

Perler PSA 2 of 2, Durability:

Another major difference with bed brands is the durability after the melt. As you can clearly see, the better brand that I use I can bend to almost touching either side of the project without breaking or cracking at all. Whereas, the cheaper brand cracked at about a 90 degree angle and broke in half when I tried to bend it as far as the beads I use, leaving only the black beads intact (the black beads are the higher quality bead).

To all my friends out there thinking about getting a commission or starting perler on their own, please be sure you are getting a quality product before spending your hard earned money on a low quality fragile beads.

My very own gingerbread house.

I made a sketch on paper to get the dimensions and mortar pattern set, and then spent a few hours putting it together. One correction to the Before picture of the walls: I had to cut out the rightmost column on the front and back pieces because the overlap pushed a couple corners past the roof’s slope. So if you follow this pattern, on the tab side of the front and back walls: reduce the width of every row in by 1 bead. This will make the two pieces seem unbalanced, but you’ll see why it had to be done when you assemble the pieces. I could have Photoshopped the pegboard picture for accuracy but no…

This is going to go on a layer of ‘snow’ batting on my mantle, and I might make some Perler candy items for the ‘yard’. I’ve decided I am NOT gluing this together, since it snaps together securely and thus it can be taken apart and put away flat after the holidays.

I challenge the rest of FYPC’s readers to make and post their own Perler gingerbread houses or something similar — there are plenty of patterns online if you need a blueprint or a jumping-off point.

This is actually really cute. I highly suggest making it as a centerpiece for your tables!
