Why Google IO 2019 is going to make Travel lit AF

Why Google IO 2019 is lit AF for Travel

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? This question asked to many people around the world will elicit many different responses: food, water, love, compassion, Drake, etc. But in the United States, a lot of us cannot fathom a life without Google. That is because all of the information we need is “universally accessible and useful,” per the conglomerate’s vision.

Whenever I see announcements of new tech, I can’t help but think about how lit and simultaneously scary it will be. Cue the HUGE Jaws great white shark on the stage of Google IO, in its full 17 foot glory. Google I/O is the annual developer conference held by the company that announces new technology developments from the last year and future updates to their platforms. It always leaves me passionately abuzz with ideas for the future.

Augmented Reality (AR) Technology in Your Phone

Soon you will be able to place 3D models right on your desk to inspect and discover, and aid learning. Zoom in on the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Goddess that Nike was named after, and feel like it is right there in your living room. Go learn more about the statue, pick out your outfit and use AR to choose the best pair of shoes, and then go Apeshit when you finally get to see it in person at the Louvre in Paris.

Map Overlays on the World Around You

Walking down the street and being able to point up your camera and see where food is, all the places you’ve saved, and pictures from when you were here last time. Imagine a real life Easter Egg Hunt with AI cues that you can update remotely and interact with.

The Louvre already has a guided tour that commemorates The Carters’ iconic trip, what if you could see Bey and Jay standing next to you, or dancing right in front of you. The technology for that is here today to have the most LIT trip planned out so you can “talk a walk in their shoes.”

Language Will No Longer be a Barrier

One the the privileges of being an American is that a lot of other countries speak multiple languages including English. But that only allows you to visit heavily touristed places. To take a trip off the beaten path, it’d be amazing to just use Google Lens to translate the content.

Use Google lens to see pages and billboards come alive with motion, videos, and additional content to continue to learn from. See the information translated or improve your language skills by hearing it played back in the source language.

Ideally this can make us a more connected and empathetic people, when we realize that we are all human beings trying to move through this world, and obliterate the xenophobia that seems to be proliferating today.

Netflix’s Black Mirror “Men Against Fire”

Obviously this amazing new technology builds upon breakthroughs of the past, and let’s just hope this is not taking us closer to any “Black Mirror” futures.

Thank you for reading! I’m @TGiFolashade everywhere :)
