You were too much alike, both of you were being pragmatic and yet it around in circles you both continued to do. He had a point but so did you, and thus as you both stood there the debate once more spin around and around coming to the same conclusions once, twice, too many times. It was almost far too much how it used to be, instead this time you both were walking the cold grounds within the Nightfort instead of along the sunny and warm docks at the edge of Kings Landing. And this time it wasn't numbers which were the discussion of debate, it was what such numbers meant in actuality.

Gold and trade the usual debates between you two back when the highest place you had any influence on was the small council. A Kingdom rapidly finding itself in dire straights as the treasury was empty and the Lannisters were as well. The only gold remaining to them was for their own spends and livelihoods but no longer could they pay for anything of other uses. The Iron Bank was new in dealings with Robert's reign and it meant that you were too aware that payments were going to be needed far more prompt then before. Your allocated budget grew smaller every quarter year and thus you and Stannis spent many days debating on what trade deals to prioritize.

Those however, were low stakes in comparison to now. You understood his position, truly you did. He was the one true King and no one had ever respected him for it. By every law in Westeros, the Iron Throne was his. You had almost died beside Eddard Stark to defend that stance, but once more like the days on the docks, those were more simple times. More simple stakes. These were not, and it would be all too easy to be blinded by presuming those stakes were just as important. But they weren't.

Jon had only been able to send a raven to Aegon, because it was now known that he had taken Storm's End, and the battle to claim the rest of the Stormlands had begun. But it also meant, asking your father to give up the castle where he grew up, and the lands of his family to the one House which meant the most insulting to claim what was yours.

The urge to keep what men he had here, stay in his place and leave to his vastly more superior numbers, and chase the Dragon from the Stag's home was too tempting, and you knew it.

You've heard, reader being insecure that people will think shes only with Jon to secure her role as a Queen again. Now prepare for, someone accuses Jon of using you by way of marrying and getting you pregnant, just to secure his place as King in the North.

omg are you 5'4-5'5? you're so petite!!

Unfortunately I have the strong ass leg muscles of an ox, and boobs a size that gives me back problems. Which means I am not petite, only short. Though it also means all the stick thin women my height make me feel like a fucking whale when standing next to them.

Please lord let me be taller so my body proportions look like they make sense πŸ™

how tall do you imagine reader to be in hotgw? i'm a sucker for height differences so i'm just trying to visualize it a wee bit better!!

She can be however tall anyone wants, but I personally have always imagined her around 5'4 to 5'5. Shorter then pretty much all of the men (except our short king howland reed) but not the shortest amongst other woman.

The Baratheon men all seem to be noticeably tall, Stannis himself is around 6'1, so she was always on the shorter side compared to them hence the references from various characters about how she used to be so small. Her growth spurt hit late and Maester Cressen used to joke that meant life robbed you of the years you couldve been spending growing as tall as your father.

So shes shorter then pretty much all of the characters she primarily has scenes with, but shes definitely not like, Arya level short.

The last few seasons make no sense because she already pledges her forces. So why did Jon still bend the knee? Unless he didn’t believe she would without him bending the knee?

I'm gonna be honest, the series of events leading to Jon bending the knee makes my head hurt. Because, as it is framed, Jon had no intention on bending the knee at all before the events of Beyond the Wall.

Then, naturally, the worst episode of all time airs, and he goes beyond the Wall in the dumbest quest known to mankind. He then gets trapped by Mr. Fan Nickname, and tells Gendry to get a raven all the way to fucking Dragonstone.

First of all, how did you chuckle fucks get yourselves into this situation. How were all of these men this unprepared for if the army of the dead showed up at this stage. Second, GENDRY DOESN'T KNOW WHERE HE IS. EVEN IF HE GETS TO EASTWATCH WHATS HE SUPPOSED TO WRITE "dysentery help us were trapped on a lake surrounded by snow." What is she supposed to do with that information? (also yes auto correct changed her name to dysentery and no I am not changing that).

Also it would take weeks for a raven that far north to get to DRAGONSTONE but whatever.

Third of all, DRAGONS CANNOT GO BEYOND THE WALL.

So, she saves them, but not Jon, because he needed to get ex machina saved by Cold Hands Benjen. Then he is picked up by the ship bringing them back to Dragonstone. Then for saving them he bends the knee.

He bends the knee after a situation that had nothing to do with the reasons he refused to bend the knee. Like they never discussed what this will mean when he does it.

Jon bends the knee, because the script said he was supposed to bend the knee now. Not because of literally anything that they discussed leading him to trust his entire army and people in her hands. She flew on a dragon and gave them a ride.

ITS EVEN FUNNIER BECAUSE DANY DOING THIS, IS WHAT CAUSES THE WHITE WALKERS TO GET BEYOND THE WALL, AND THEN DANYS FORCES LITERALLY DO NOT ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING EFFECTIVE TO END "THE LONG NIGHT". GETTING HER HELP LITERALLY DID NOTHING BUT MAKE THE SITUATION EVEN WORSE.

Like Jon clearly did not need Danys help, because her forces did nothing and her dragons did not actually do anything effective beyond burn a few more wights at once. Dany sends the Dothraki of all people as their first line of defence and they all get slaughtered.

Literally nothing Dany did, helped Jon. Nothing. He bends the knee because the script told him too. Because Jon has been given no reason to believe that she will actually be helpful or is even trustworthy with his people.

Also lmao cus that scene has Jon making a season 1 reference, making the romance thing super weird coded. He jokes he'd actually bend the knee if he could stand, and thats literally a joke Ned makes when he wakes up after the street fight with Jaime Lannister, telling Robert "I would rise, but..."

He also tells her at one point "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come." Which is what Mance Rayder says to Stannis before he's executed.

LIKE WHAT DO THESE REFERENCES EVEN IMPLY????

The only way it makes sense, is if Jon was worried that now he's seen dragons in action, what Dany would do to his people should he continue to say no, so he bends the knee just like Tohrren Stark before him to spare them. But we never actually get a real reason why he does it because Jon doesn't have a reason. He's just Danys story pawn at this point of the show.

Jon bending the knee is a fucking incomprehensible mess that never should have happened.

So, Jon leaves as King in the North with zero intentions of bending the knee when he meets with this newly arrived Targaryean. He returns after little to no word being sent and having been gone for a very long time, having bent the knee but arrives WITH said Targaryean in toe who arrives with her full sized DRAGONS.

And none of Jons council or high lords looked at that situation and went "hey remember when Tohrren Stark was basically forced into bending the knee to urgently spare the North from being massacred by Aegon Targaryean and his dragons?" No one thought perhaps something smelled not right about that whole scenario before just shitting on Jon outright?

I guess Jons season 5 line "Northerners can be a bit like the free folk. Loyal to their own." Didn't actually mean shit to him or any other Northerner in the end.

Cool.
