Hi! I’m a huge fan of your art. I was wondering, do you have any advice for approving on anatomy or color? Those are parts of your art that really inspire me! ^^
thanks so much!
For Anatomy, I’d suggest familiarizing yourself with general muscle groups via actual anatomical diagrams, which I’ll include. Once you know how the meaty bits all go together it’s a lot easier modifying/stylizing them!!
here:
Then come figure drawing anatomy studies, these help with figuring out how things fit together and move:
(Pinterest is a shitty cesspool of art stealing and reposting, but it’s a really great place to find and organize lots of references like these!)
Btw cool website:
One last note on… sort of anatomy, but this is more pertinent for composition: work from broad to specific! Block out the general flow of the poses, get a good silhouette before you start going in with details.
I’m using one of my artworks and hoping this helps visualize what I mean:
Color:
When I’m laying down my base colors what tends to be at the forefront of my mind is the value scale.
what i mean by this is, if you look at your piece in grayscale, can you tell that different parts of it are different colors, that some are lighter and darker? Does it still make sense to your eyes if it’s all grayscale? Or is everything the same sort of gray and it all muddled together?
Color can greatly impact the overall mood of your piece, so it’s generally good practice to have a loose idea on the general atmosphere you want to convey and then decide how color relationships play with that.
a general rule of practice for me is to keep the amount of colors I use to a minimum, reusing them in different places (someone’s hair color will also be another persons pants color or something!)
Also when coloring I generally avoid white backgrounds, I feel like it tends to make my colors rather flat and uninteresting. You can see here:
Ive found designating a base that is not white naturally influences the palette to give my end product a more unified appearance.
I think I’ve rambled FAR too long at this point, uhm, hope this was helpful? aha
