BTW I think we should focus more on Embracer deliberately picking the last day of the month to shut down Volition so they wouldn't have to pay for their health insurance for September

And not to mention announcing this exactly the moment Starfield embargo ended, hoping that the hype and news coverage of Starfield would bury the news that they shut down one of their more popular studios

BTW reboot wasn't even selling poorly and was predicted to be "decently profitable".

The reason they decided to fire 200+ devs wasn't because of reboot's failure, but because they were supposed to have a deal with Saudi Arabia that fell through, so now they gotta fire thousands of employees to make up for the fact that they lost billions in acquiring studios cause they counted on earning back that money from Saudi Arabia deal.

Volition is the 2nd studio Embracer shut down this month, and Gearbox was also hit by massive layoffs cause of Embracer.

Gotta love monopolies!

Hearing about Volition's abrupt shuttering has left me in a weird empty, mourning mood tonight.

When I first started playing Saints Row: The Third almost exactly ten years ago, little would I know how much it'd end up changing my life. I found my best friends through Saints Row's Tumblr community, friends I keep up with daily even though all of us have since moved on to different fandoms. I got to know many other amazing people in the community, through all the shared art and headcanons and roleplays. And I got deeply invested in the creation and development of my OCs, these silly and badass and tragic imaginary people who shared my headspace almost every waking moment of my life for several years.

All this I got from a game series its studio had clearly poured their hearts and souls into, even through all the constant corporate meddling in the development processes over what must have been the last fifteen years, and now finally, a sudden death knell. Volition the studio is no more, its staff laid off without warning or fanfare. And it's just so unfair to everyone who'd worked on the games, and I hate that it's yet more proof (as if we didn't have enough already) that the current system of giant game publisher oligopolies gobbling up everyone they can get their hands on and then taking them behind the shed to be shot when they don't immediately return a double of their investment just shouldn't. fucking. exist.

It sucks. I don't have much more to say except that I hope the now ex-Volition game developers all end up finding new and maybe even better employers soon. And just maybe there'll be some new studio rising from the core of the Volition creative team. We'll see.

And to have this come out of nowhere is such a terrible thing.#No matter what my opinions may be this series has done so much for me and I am incredibly thankful for the time I've spent with it.#I genuinely don't think I would be in the place I am today if I didn't buy SR2 at the recommendation of a friend and eventually sink so man#hours into the game at the age of 15. The changed me for the better and I'm so so proud of the personal work I've done in thinking about th#series or just about Django. Really anything.

All I can really say about the studio's closure at this point is that it's a very sad situation which reinforces my beliefs regarding how ridiculous these companies are in the mishandling of developers and the IP's they own. Absolute shitshow.

I know the series is technically "still alive". But I really have no confidence in where it will go at this point in time. Even if there are people still trying to fight for it that have remained employed. I don't know, man.

#Goes without saying that SR has meant a lot to me.#And not just because I enjoy the series no matter what my opinion may be.#Without playing SR2 I wouldn't have had the idea to start trying to write Django before he became a fully realized concept#and then eventually start actively writing in the RPC on here.#Which has led me to meeting so many good people throughout my years on this site and despite the ups and downs of the RPC.#Especially my closest friends like I'm so grateful for the weird domino effect this series has done on my life.

Saints Row Character Building Questions

I made an extensive, 50 question meme which is intended to help people for character building their Saints Row characters. These questions ask a lot of things related to SR’s context, like their experiences as Saints and what their relationships with their homies are like. It also asks for things like habitual choices they’ve made in the SR universe (eg. did they go to Freckle Bitch’s a lot?), as well as makes you consider a few world building and meta questions.

This is not restricted to Boss characters; some questions can be used for non-Boss characters. Bear in mind that by nature many of these questions may only be applicable to Bosses, though.

Please do not add questions to this list, whether by editing the original post or tagging them on via reblog. I put a lot of thought into these questions and I don’t feel comfortable with other people hijacking the work I’ve done, so to speak. There is a bonus number at the bottom that lets people send a question of their own if they want to ask something else.

  2. What is your character’s gender and sexual orientation? Did either of those factors have an impact on their relationship with any homies, or on their role within the Saints?
