last line of Watership Down, by Richard Adams (via alistoflastlines)
Hey gang. It’s with a heavy heart that I let you know that I’ve decided to shut down the Junco's Pub live stream.
The Junco's Pub Karaoke event at The Ship tonight will be the final hurrah for the stream, at least in its current form.
While it hasn’t appeared at the pub, the recent frounce scare on the east coast of Newfoundland has taken the fun out of feeding wild birds.
I encourage other folks to listen to the advice of the experts like Bill Montevecchi and Laura Rogers and take the feeders down — at the very least until winter each year. And even in winter, try to only use feeders as an emergency support during cold snaps or bad weather.
<3 and thanks for watching.
See you tonight!

A day at the park.
Aaaaaaand we're back! The livestream is back after a summer hiatus. Not a lot has changed in the bar, but we removed the nest after it was clear the parents weren't going to lay any more eggs in there.
As usual the permanent link is http://juncospub.com/live. Happy birdwatching!
wth google maps i don't see a pub anywhere
And just like that, they're gone! The two very healthy babies fledged the nest around dawn this morning. We might see them come back to feed over the next few days, but they're likely learning to hunt and hide in the vegetation in the area. If you happen to live in downtown St. John's, please try to keep your cats inside for the next few days to give them a good chance!
I will try to find some video of the fledge and post it here, but if you tune into the livestream you'll hear a lot of proud junco parent noises in the background. They've visited a few times this morning.
It was heartbreaking to lose the other two. :(
What now? From what I hear, the juncos might lay another set of eggs in the nest soon, but if not, after a few weeks I might remove the nest and clean up in the pub. They kept it surprisingly clean in there though! Pretty amazing.
Thank you for watching and contributing to the live chat, everybody! It's been an amazing adventure. I will be going back over the past few days and making highlight videos and gifs, so check back here.
Good luck, little juncos! It's been a privilege seeing you grow up.
How did you create that tiny little video/fire display!? It's so cute!
I accidentally put my television in the dryer!
Here's an article from CBC NL. Thanks to Laura for the interview! http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/juncos-pub-eggs-hatch-1.3606959
