Like, I don’t want to tell you specifically what to do, but if you look at the history of the labour movement, progress wasn’t made by voting for the opposing party, it was by taking illegal action. Labour activists fought and sometimes died for their right to organize, and after decades of the erosion of union rights, it’s militant action that’s going to win those rights again. Again, I don’t want this to come across as me telling you what to do, just that if you put your faith in voting for the Democrats you’re going to be disappointed.

That’s the thing about a state-wide strike. They can’t fire you all.

That’s what the air controllers thought when they went on strike in 1981. Reagan made the point very very clear that, yes, they can. And they will. When legal protections have been eroded enough, they absolutely can.

so… are you saying you shouldn’t bother? Forget militant labour action, just vote Democrat?

The solution to the state cracking down like that is to spread the strike to other sectors, or other states. Solidarity strikes. 

You don’t build a labour movement by voting Democrat, you build a labour movement by building a labour movement. 

That’s not what I said. But I am trying to give some context as to why Texas specifically is struggling to even talk about a strike while successful strikes are happening in other states.

And I didnt even specifically say vote Democrat. I said get the republicans out- they are the ones pushing for vouchers, pushing for privatization , actively undermining labor and public ed.

This is one of those things that I already knew was true, but seeing it so blatantly displayed makes me feel like like I am finding out about it for the first time.

“It’s just a script whats the problem lol” the problem is that Fox, CNN, CBS, and all the other channels repped here, despite claiming to be different companies with different viewpoints, all had the exact same script, word for word, to push the exact same viewpoint that smaller, independent news outlets are Fake News and “A Threat To Our Democracy.” The fact that they have scripts isn’t the problem. The problem is they all, each and every one, have the exact same script down to the letter and in some cases the fucking inflection, which basically reads “small news stations are untrustworthy and a Threat to your Way Of Life, only trust Us, We Are Verified.”
