It took longer than I wanted and I’m not happy with the seams where the six pieces come together (oh for a bigger loom), but I HAVE A BLANKET!
I have finished my ace blanket before the end of Pride month.
I am very happy with it. :)
platonic love is so important
both in fiction and in real life. it is not inferior to romantic love and it is so important to celebrate it
hug your friends. tell them you love them. swear you’ll be in each other’s lives forever. a lot of the things lovers do aren’t inherently romantic
i think that at this point. at THIS point of Things. you can pretty safely assume that almost no one is Doing Well, so instead of being a real shitlord about tiny problems, maybe instead go out of your way to be kinder and more patient to everyone around you.
or at least fucking fake it.
or at least just be quiet.
these are the guiding principles of 2022
- assume no one is OK
- use that as fuel for kindness and bridge-building, not pettiness
- if you can't be kind, be quiet
i just got this comment over on twitter and honestly i think this is one of my favorite things that has ever been said to me about writing
truer words never spoken

these middle schoolers are touring campus and one of them walked by me and said “hey what’s college life like” and i told him “it sucks” and he said “well it can’t be any worse than middle school.” he’s right
Take these words through your darkest hour, for though we maybe tired and hungry, at least we’re not in fucking middle school
Was hanging out with friends one time and we were trying to get to a restaurant for dinner but it was a series of unfortunate events and everything kept going wrong so finally we were honestly just walking along a street hoping to find something, and a Rock Bottom Brewery came into view, and I said, “How do we feel about Rock Bottom?” and one of the other people said “Getting more and more comfortable with it with every passing minute!”
Which was funny and all, but it started me thinking. And honestly, I would take that whole night, disasters – the traffic issues, the wait times, the parking failures, the miscommunications, the inability to make a decision – and all, over any random minute of middle school.
Middle school is awful, and it really does get better.
"I've spent most of my life on war ships, never knowing what the next mission might bring. I'm used to the hum of engines, the creaking of bulkheads... Life planet-side is too static, too boring."
cannot for the life of me remember who said that one reason eliot sleeps around is it makes him feel better to bring pleasure with his hands rather than just pain (which ties in nicely with his desire to nourish people by cooking for them; it's a reminder that he is not just a thing that hurts people) but yeah that is an A+ reading and I thank you for helping this asexual write him better.
#also the touch-starvation. obviously the touch-starvation. professionally violent dude who rarely does hugs #and has to get his human connection and feel-good brain chemicals somewhere. #also probably the allosexuality but I mostly don't manage to write that [via @wolves-in-the-world]
"Why would this character sleep around? Let me list the reasons. 😊 [...] ...Oh, wait. Should 'sexual attraction' be in there somewhere? 🤔 That's a thing, right? Maybe? Ah... sure, it can go... uh... down there. At the bottom. It can't be that important."
