Soft chirps by my window alerted me that morning had come. A smile ran across my face as I remembered last night. Was it too early to swing by and see him?He still had so much to explain....

I rummaged through my closet until I could find acceptable clothing. I grumbled to myself about how I need to worry more about laundry then the supernatural when I heard a slight knock at my door.

"Come in!" I yelled towards the door as I scrambled into my outfit for today. Suddenly Leo burst into the room and I screeched.

"Surprise!" Leo screamed as he pulled me into a hug before he even realized i wasn't dressed. 

"Leo! Half naked here?" He gazed down and his eyes popped. I broke the hug and slipped into my dress, ignoring the way his eyes wandered.

"Such a gentleman." I said sarcastically as he tried to put his eyes back into his head. He pulled me close to him so he could cradle his face in his hand.

"Sorry Hope. But you know how I feel..." He kissed me on the neck and I whimpered.

"Can you just behave?" I begged slightly, thinking of Riley. But that kiss was so tempting....

"No promises." Leo chuckled as he released me. I breathed a sigh of relief as my mind stopped wandering. 

"Haha. Can i see you tomorrow, please? I have to go." The thought of Riley made my heart bounce of my chest. 

Leo's face fell. "Hope...I've been waiting weeks for this. Just two hours and i swear i won't bug you again." 

I gazed into the puppy dogs eyes and my resistance faltered. I nodded and Leo gave me his all time favorite smile.

The fear from Riley's confession sent chills down my spine. I gazed into his perfect, deadly eyes. What had once seemed like a safe harbor now looked cold and unwelcoming. I put my arms across my chest to hold myself together. I had to be dreaming, there was no way this was real.

"Hope?" Riley's voice sounded full of concern. He held out his hand to me but didn't dare touch me.Gingerly, I ran my fingers against his soft seductive skin.

"Are you going to...hurt me?" I managed to force the words out after minutes of trying. I peeked out of the corner of my eyes and saw horror flash across his face.

"Never in a million years. I will never be that kind of monster. Me, Calista, and Adriana are the only of our kind that don't feed of humans for sustenance. But that's another story for another day." Riley said with a tiny smile.

"Or a story for today. Please, Riley, there's still so much I don't know." I pouted.

Riley chuckled. "You have plenty of time to figure everything out. Come on, let me take you home."

I felt a tiny thrill as I climbed into his car. I giggled quietly to myself and watched as Riley turned the key in the ignition.

"You have the cutest laugh." Riley said out of no where. I felt my cheeks blush and and I held my head down.

He picked my chin up and held my face to his. "Want to watch the stars?" He asked seductively.

I'm already watching the stars.... I thought as I gazed into his eyes.I nodded and he chuckled slightly.

Riley found a soft spot in the grass and plopped down. I followed suit and he pulled me into his chest.I wrapped my arms around him as tight as I could, enchanted by his everything.

"Hope?" Riley whispered in his smooth sexy voice. I felt a warm shiver like I always did when he said my name.

"Mmmmmmm?' 

"Do you trust me?"

I pulled away from him and looked him right in his eyes. "If I didn't trust you, do you think i would be laying against you, completely vulnerable?"

Riley chuckled softly. "Just making sure."

I walked into the patio area of the cafe with a nervous feeling in my stomach.I glanced at the clock on my phone as I sat down. 11:50. Riley would be here any moment. “Hey there.” Riley dazzled me with a smile as he pulled out his chair. I restarted my heart and nodded. “Have you ate here before?”Riley asked, his eyes scanning the menu. I rolled my eyes at him. “Is that really what you want to talk about?” I asked as I stared intently into his eyes.He sighed. “Not really.” Riley bit his bottom lip as he stared into my eyes. “I just don’t know where to start,how to even begin with this.” “The beginning would be nice.” I teased lightly.Riley chuckled and took a deep breath. “Hope, do you know what energy is?” Riley asked me lightly, swirling his straw in his glass. I gazed at him in disbelief. “It’s relevant, I promise.” He said in a soothing voice. “Of course I do.” I grumbled slightly. “I just don’t know where you’re getting with this.” “There’s one kind of energy you didn’t learn about, one that very little believe in. It’s bred under certain circumstances and none is quite the same.It’s called abnormal energy, but most people just recognize it as supernatural.” I absorbed his words like a sponge,shaking slightly when he finished. “How does this pertain to me?” “The most common occurrence is through near death experiences. Many people mistake it for just post trauma, but it’s not.Hope, when your parents died in that car crash unexpectedly, their normal energy changed into supernatural. And the energy grabbed onto the only living person it could.Which was you.” My head spun like a top. I grabbed the tabled for support. “How did their energy turn supernatural?Does it happen to everyone that dies?” I had a million questions just begging to be answered. “It doesn’t happen to everyone, just people whose life is cut off unexpectedly. Even though their soul departs their life energy still lingers,so it changes and infects the living.In your case,it was actually so drastic it changed you.That usually doesn’t happen.” “So…what are you?” I asked timidly. Riley cocked back his head and laughed humorlessly. “Well I guess you haven’t been freak out enough today.” He sighed. “Hope…I’m a vampire.”

I quickly wiped away my tears and went back to my book.Grammy would be here soon,and I didn't want her asking questions.I ran my fingers over the smooth cover and took a deep breath.This is it.

"The phenomena of dreams has been studied for centuries.Many believe that dreams hold supernatural powers, such as telling the future or aiding the dreamer in some form. Some even believe that through dreams, there is the power to communicate with others, ranging from family to even the dead.

How is this possible,you ask?Many believe that-"

 The next words were cut out of the book.

Dammit! I threw the book on the ground,not even caring that it belonged to the library.I grumbled into the kitchen and grabbed a yogurt, plotting untraceable murders for Riley the entire time.

"Hope?" Grammy called out as she opened the front door. I swallowed my last bite of yogurt and my rage and went to give her a soft kiss on the cheek.

"My sweet girl." She kissed me back and smiled. I rushed into the living room and put away the book while she settled in. Se wouldn't exactly approve of that title.

"Guess who I saw today?"  Grammy asked as she headed into the kitchen to fix herself some dinner.  I shrugged my shoulders.

"Jessica Stone. She says Leo and Paisley come back in town next week, so I invited them over for dinner."  Grammy scanned my face for the excitement she was expecting, so I hid my shock and mustered up a weak smile.

"That should be interesting." I giggled nervously into my hand. To say the least. I bit my lip at the thought of facing him after this afternoon. "I'm gonna go to bed.Night."

I went to my room and turned on my computer. I opened the messenger and typed in Leo's name. What would I say to him? An apology seemed like a good place to start.

Leo.....

I"m so so sorry about today. I never meant to hurt you.You're the best friend I have and the rock I lean on. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you.

Maybe it will be,only time will tell.I love you too,you know, but like a brother.But maybe I could learn. I'm so sorry Leo,I really am.I hope we can still be friends because I don't want t lose you.

I didn't look back to read,I just pressed send. I heard a soft knock on my door and after jumping out of my skin,yelled "come in!"

"You dropped this earlier.It was on the floor in the living room."  Grammy handed me a note and closed my door.I opened it,confused.

Do you think I'd leave such precious information in a book?Tomorrow,noon, at the bistro.

I felt a shiver of pleasure run down my spine.Without hesitation, I hopped into bed and fell asleep, more eager than I had ever been in my life.

I rushed into the bathroom and turned the knobs on the shower.I heard the familiar mist of water running and eagerly hopped in. The water scalded my skin but I didnt care. This was exactly what I needed. What in the hell did that book contain?Riley told me it would explain everything. More importantly, how in the hell did know what I needed? And why did my heart melt like butter when I looked into his eyes? I toweled off and got dressed again. There was nothing else in the way of reading so I picked a comfy position on the couch and opened the cover. I had barely read the first word when like clockwork, my phone buzzed.I glanced at the name and my heart skipped a beat and sunk at the same time. "Hope!" Leo exclaimed cheerfully. "I've missed you.I'm sorry it's been so long." "Just a week." I mumbled shamefully. A week where I threw every thought of Leo out of my mind for another guy. "But I missed you too." "This was the longest week of my life, Hope. I couldnt get my mind off of you." My heart fluttered slightly but my brain ran back to Riley. I choked back a cry. Leo went on, oblivious to the trauma raging war inside of me. "Hope..I couldn't pluck up the courage to ever tell you this in person...but I love you.I have since we were children.Even when you stopped coming for the summers I never forgot about you." He went silent, obviously waiting for my answer, but I just burst into tears. "Shit, Hope, are you crying? I'm sorry Hope, I'm sorry." Leo whimpered over the phone. "Leo..." I longed to explain everything to him. But I didnt even understand it myself. "Forget I said anything.I'm sorry, Hope." I heard the dial tone but this time, I didn't question it.

“Dreams” I typed into the search engine of the computer.After sifting through pages of movies,music,and other nonsense,I found a promising site. “Looking for something?” A voice said behind me.I jumped and turned around to see Riley laughing. “Just the same thing I was looking at yesterday.” I said. He glanced over my shoulder to look at my screen, then smirked at me. “Dreams?” He chuckled lightly.I glared at him.Who did he think he was,looking over my shoulder and mocking my beliefs. “It's none of your business.” I snapped. He scowled and sighed. “You're right,it's not.” He said.. “I'm sorry,I didn't mean to offend you.” I softened. “Apology accepted.” Riley dazzled me with a smile and ran over to the bookshelf. He scanned through the shelves and settled on a book,then handed it to me. “Take this.” He handed me the book. “This is what you need.” I eyed him suspiciously. “And how do you know what I need?” He ignored my question.“Just find me when you've read it.” “Fine.” I agreed. And with my book in hand,I rushed home.
