I think it’s important for people to know that Mako was the original voice actor of Uncle Iroh. He had esophageal cancer. Tales from Ba Sing Se was his last day of voice work for the show before he passed away. The drawing of Iroh’s son here in this episode was based on Mako himself when he was young, and the song Leaves from the Vine was written about him because he had also been a soldier. He never got to see the episode air. In Legend of Korra, Mako was named after him. Greg Baldwin took over for him after he passed, but refuses to sing Leaves from the Vine because “that’s Mako’s song.”

I can’t believe I forgot to mention this (blame not sleeping all night) - her story is already in development as a film. Daisy Ridley (Rey from Star Wars) is set to play Virginia. More here.

This movie has been in various states of development for like a decade, but I think it’s got incredibly good odds of being in the current development climate.

And while we’re here, have a cute picture of Virginia and Paul (he’s the one on the right). The other two pictured are OSS reinforcements who came in along with Paul, but neither stuck around very long - so I relegated their presence in the story to a footnote.

One movie isn’t going to be enough to cover this woman’s whole life, this needs to be a limited run series or something (but I will take the movie if it ever appears at long last).

“Her brashness chafed with her bosses” - as a disabled woman, this is a catch 22. If you’re ‘relentlessly pleasant’, as female executives are advised to be, people will immediately assume incompetence and stupidity. They just do.

But if you’re brash, they may be willing to let go of the stupidity, but immediately replace that with ‘difficult to work with/bitch’.
