Fuck Yeah Downfall Timeline

@fuckyeahclassiclink / fuckyeahclassiclink.tumblr.com

This blog is dedicated to all the Zelda games in the Downfall timeline. This includes the original Legend of Zelda ( which we refer to and tag as it's japanese subtitle "The Hyrule Fantasy" ), Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, A Link Between Worlds, and on rare occasions, Ocarina of Time. Sometimes I'll post art that is not specific to any Zelda game but feels reminiscent to the downfall game styles. I am a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda, and have been since I borrowed Ocarina of Time from a friend and reserved my copy of the wind waker. I didn't get a chance to play many of the classics until around the time the Wii Virtual Console became a thing. I fell in love with the older games. Around the time of Skyward Sword's release, I became pretty involved in the Zelda fandom, but started to get frustrted at the lack of classic zelda fan art. Not only that but the fans in general gave off the vibe that the older games were obsolete garbage. I became very disenchanted with the fandom. So I made a blog dedicated to the first four Zelda games, and those games alone. Eventually, A Link Between Worlds was announced, and the Oracles games were released on 3DS Virtual console, giving me a chance to play them for the first time. After that, I decided to expand this blog to include all games from the downfall timeline. And here we are now. My prayers for a new classic inspired Zelda were answered when they announced a Link Between Worlds, but we can always use more. After all, I believe topdown Zelda and 3D Zelda offer different experiences that appeal to different people... I happen to like both. So don't mistake my passion for classic Zelda as contempt for Modern Zelda. I have legitimate likes and dislikes about every Zelda game, even my favorites. I won't lie and say I don't have more passion for classic than I do modern, but there are more than enough passionate modern zelda fans to go around. As you can imagine, I have a hard time fitting in with other Zelda fans. I take a lot of crap for not loving everything about the newer zeldas and get the 'ye olde nostalgia goggles accusations' slung at me instantly for praising anything that came before majora's mask. I also have have a lot of unpopular opinions. I don't like talking about this kind of thing because of how protective and possessive the fandom can be. I always feel like I'm walking on eggshells with Zelda fans. That said, you can still send me an ask if you want to talk zelda with me. Speaking of asks, this was once an ask blog for the whole classic zelda character crew, but I've since canceled that, and will only accept asks directed toward me. This blog may contain fanservice, but never nudity. Risque content will be marked nsfw. But I won't be posting it too much. Submissions are appreciated. Take our 30 Day Drawing Challenge! Do you enjoy old school pokemon? Check out my blog dedicated to the early years of the series I also have a Sonic the Hedgehog blog called Egg Pocket Zone Spare some change? I suppose i'm long overdue for a pinned post huh?

Welcome to my Zelda blog! This blog covers anything that falls under the downfall timeline, but mostly favors the "retro" Zelda games, Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, and Link's Awakening. Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, as well as a Link Between Worlds also counts, and once in a blue moon, very infrequently, Ocarina of Time counts as well. I do not count Triforce Heroes, because I question it's status as an ALBW sequel, given the change of design from retro Link to Toon Link, and it just got very far away from the spirit of the old games.

Why these specific Zelda games you ask? Why not a general Zelda blog? Well I made this game at a time where the retro Zelda titles were being unfairly disrespected. Skyward Sword had just gotten released, and the fans were divided. Some people didn't feel like a text-heavy story full of exposition and tutorials was what was best. And the retro titles usually got caught in the crossfire over this. People were very harsh toward the retro games in order to double down on their defense of Skyward Sword.

Luckily, things seem to have subsided since then and there has been a new wave of appreciation for retro Zelda thanks to various sequels, remakes, re-releases, anniversary items, guest appearances in Mario Maker 2, and the newest Zelda being very much in the spirit of the NES game. Although it's still not perfect as there are still people who disrespect and under appreciate retro Zelda, pushing false narratives that Zelda 2 was poorly received or that Zelda 1 isn't possible without walkthroughs. I still feel like retro Zeldas in general are under appreciated by the greater Zelda fan community and often get passed over when the history of the series is celebrated ( unless it's related to the music )

This blog will cover non-game related media as well. In this house we respect the Zelda cartoon and comics. And while I have little respect for the CD-i, I will reblog fan art, but only if it's completely unironic and well done. No memes.

I'm always open to asks, it doesn't have to be specifically about downfall timeline Zelda, it can be about Zelda in general, but please don't get too far off topic.

NOTE: This blog was also an ask blog for retro Zelda characters at one point, but that era of the blog has been over for years. So if you're doing some deep sea blog exploration and find those ask blog posts, i'm sorry you missed it, but please don't send asks directed at Zelda characters. I will not answer them.

If you want to chat about video games that aren't Zelda, check out my general gaming blog: https://game-boy-pocket.tumblr.com/

If you want to talk about Pokemon, specifically the firs two generations, check out my Pokemon nostalgia blog: https://kanto-jhoto.tumblr.com/

If you want to shoot the shit about literally anything else, you can hit up my personal blog but don't have high hopes as i'm not a very chatty person when it's not about my niche interests: https://always-thirsty-pocket.tumblr.com/

And if you like Digimon or virtual pets in general, take a look at my V-pet blog: https://digi-egg-in-your-pocket.tumblr.com/

Artwork of Link and Mamu/Wart from a 1994 The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening manga. Mamu from that game is intended to be the same character as Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2 (whose appearance in Link’s Awakening is explained by the dream theme of both games), and the name “Mamu” is also Wart’s name in Japanese. The English version of the game merely left the name untranslated.

I drew original Link this time (from Zelda 1 or 2) and I think he turned out cute!

He’s looking at a map or something, and is clearly quite confused by it lol

I drew mer-legend, now here's Faerule in a bottle!! :D

I struggled with the lighting of this drawing so so much - ultimately the only reason it turned out as good as it did is thanks to my friends who were willing to play along with my bullshit in the middle of the night and help me actually make it look good. So much bs went into making this. So much bs. (As in, I was the one bs-ing.)

But hey it looks good so shhh

I'm still taking suggestions for what other mythical creatures I should draw the boys as (because I still only have ideas for a couple of them, not all), so if you have a thing where you're like "Oh I've aways imagined Wind as like, a phantom or something idk," and you're willing to share, I'd greatly appreciate!! (The only characters I have ideas for rn are Twi, Time, and ofc the Ravio sketch I posted a couple days ago.)

Oh also!! The little cheek thingies and antennae I took from @grooviestsadpapaya 's sketch of triple threat because I love it so much, and also that's what kick-started my inspiration to draw this one in the first place.

But please take my Faerule I love Faerule so much now I'm gonna go do my hw due in like two hours

[Legend of Zelda]: 38 years and ongoing.

Happy 38th Anniversary to the game that started the legend - the original Legend of Zelda on the Famicom, released on 21 Feb 1986 [Japan release].

This started as a "quick sketch" to commemorate the release. But I got carried away with the finer details. Especially on the Famicom and NES consoles. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Link's outfit is a updated version of my 80's fashion design from my old [Fashion Line Up] series for LinkedUniverse AU.
