Guess who's bringing up ID again-- listen I just really love the details with the writing and animation. By this point in the franchise history, Leon quite a bit of experience under his belt. He survived RC, got forced into the government and went through years of training, survived Operation Javier, and successfully rescued the president's daughter. He's undoubtedly talented, but even the professionals make mistakes sometimes.
Right after telling Jason about his trauma with Raccoon City, and getting noticeably worked up about it, Leon instinctively grabs his gun to fend off the potential zombies while they're in a submarine.
And Jason has to quickly grab Leon's arm, reminding him that if he fires a gun in pressurized tube, he's gonna blow the whole damn thing.
Leon looks a bit... confused? at first, then glances to the side when Jason's like "remember?" probably because he realizes that was almost pretty bad. Then he goes for his knife instead (knives are faster after all hehe).
It's a small detail, connecting the scenes of Leon getting upset about RC and everything that happened then not really thinking about the situation, just acting on instinct, and he almost fucks up. Despite all the training and experience, he's still a human, he's going to make a mistake at some point.
And this really makes me wonder... he's obviously one of the protagonists of the series and it's a video game, so we don't get to see Leon lose, we don't know if he's ever failed a mission, but surely he'd have to have at some point. After all, he goes on more missions than we actually see in the games and movies. Shen May mentions his "dozens" of "critical missions" but up until this point, we've only been shown 3 (OJ, rescuing Ashley, and Harvardville), so it makes me wonder about the other missions he's been on. We'll probably never get to see them obviously, but I want Leon to make (more) mistakes. It's realistic, and it shows that he's still human.
