Weekly Anime Comic: Dirty Pair - page 9

I mean, I'm not saying that would ever be a WRONG decision, I'm just a bit confused how we wound up here.  And to anybody doubting if that's "actually" supposed to be a Godzilla mask the dude wears when we first see him, I remind you that this episode literally includes the legit Godzilla skronk when Mughi and Namo show up at the end.  There's even less reason for that happening than the mask.  See, stuff like this is why I like this show.

Also, just for the record, I was also tempted to try equate the "Newstone" in this episode to  Unobtainium, and try to contrast how Avatar is all about environmentalism while this episode literally destroys the planet... but I dunno, I just couldn't lay that out out in a way where I actually found it funny.  Which, you know, is kind of important.  Maybe I was just dead set on drawing that Godzilla mask and refused to be happy with any other concept?

Weekly Digimon Comic: Digimon Tamers - page 3

SAKURA IS VERY UNHAPPY THAT I DIDN'T DO COMICS ON THE SECOND HALF OF HER SHOW.... or maybe because Tamers got way less edits when it first aired stateside than Cardcaptors did.  I dunno.

Anyway, the trend of two comics per episode continues with episode 3, so tune in next week for that (or, ya know, become a Patron and see it right away)

New Digimon Adventure 25th Anniversary Exhibition poster was released yesterday.

Basically the anniversary key visual but now updated with all the Adventure kids. (Mimi chan’s pose 🙏🏻✅)

Details unclear but it seems this exhibition will replace DigiFes this year.

This is really more a dig at anime that reuse their own themes in-universe as a general thing than a specific complaint about Dirty Pair specifically.  They're not even THAT bad about it (otherwise Kei would have just been listening to "Ru-Ru-Ru-Russian Roulette" back in episode five).  Still, unless it's being used in a transformation sequence or a climactic fight scene or some other "you need to feel pumped up right now" moment, I can't help laughing when the theme is used within the episode.  I immediately get this mental image of an overly frugal Mom insisting on using EVERY scrap of leftovers no matter how sick you've gotten of that dish, only this time is a producer scramming some J-Pop down your throat... In fact, why didn't I draw THAT?

Weekly Digimon Comic: Digimon Tamers - page 2.5

Anime Fandom is bad and we're all bad people for being a part of it.

But yeah, at first these were going to be their own separate comics, but then I realized that three whole pages just on episode TWO was setting a dangerous precedent, so they got mooshed into one.  As a result, though, there's an observation that WAS going to be part of one of the comics that I still want to get off of my chest: the whole Calumon gag is dependent on a line that, it turns out, is only in the Saban dub.  There's a whole generation of sub-only fans who don't have to get that put into their brains.  I dunno how I'm supposed to feel about that. Also, just as a friendly reminder: all the Digimon content that's come out over the past month was originally cranked out to Patreon in just over a week of mad productivity.  I went frickin' CRAZY for a bit there.

...because there's only so many times you can just flip the McDonald's "M" over so it's a "W" and call it a day.  At some point, somebody's gotta do something a bit more inventive.  An darn it, "Big Nac" is just that.  Of course, I also love the though of some sweet and innocent Japanese artist thinking that drawing a Big Mac but adding one or two MORE layers of patties was some sort of impossible absurdity, meanwhile the In-N-Out 100x100 lurks in the shadows cackling menacingly.

But yeah, rest comfortably in the knowledge that, if your Patreon money ever makes me rich, I'll absolutely use that wealth responsibly.

Weekly Digimon Comic: Digimon Tamers - page 2

Just before anybody asks: my brain only has room to learn the name of any given character ONCE.  Thus, even though I'm actually watching the subbed version of Tamers for these comics, I'll still be referring to characters by their Saban dub names where applicable.  So it'll be Rika and Henry, not Ruki and Jian.  I'm not saying that's how it SHOULD be, I'm just recognizing the factual reality that it's how thing WILL be.  You have been warned.

Incidentally, I just finished watching episode 5 to do the first of those pages for Patreon (Yes, it'll have more than one page. Again.) and I just noticed Takato and Henry wearing stuff over their eyes and they run into the digital field there as well.  Was this, like, actually a thing?  I sure don't remember it being a thing.  Did the show drop that detail after a while, or was I just that unobservant as a kid?
