the sudden SNAP of the time lord’s voice startled the fallen star so much, that she jumped back in surprise. in doing so, she lost her balance, and found her body colliding with the ground before she had time to do anything about it. the fall hurt, but not nearly as much as other tumbles she had taken ( falling from s p a c e did take the cake ).
while she took a moment to recollect herself, chris managed to get a look at the doctor from around the side of the tardis. tea in hand, he was the p e r f e c t vision of a scottish man– completely and STEROTYPICALLY so. his normal trench coat was a deep blue, almost matching the tardis in color. the doctor had a way of carrying himself in fashionable clothing that, regardless of the occasion, made anyone else around him feel under-dressed. the simple white t-shirt and jeans she currently had on immediately felt unseemly in comparison.
finally, she s t r e t c h e d herself out and stood on her feet once more, using the tardis as a means to steady herself. her pants were now splashed with speckles of dirt, and her pride was evidently broken. she’d admired this man for so long– and now that she finally had the chance to meet him, she fell right on her butt.
❝ i, uh, i apologize if i made it seem as though i was sneaking up on you. in truth, i thought you were away from the tardis. ❞
chris hoped that her knowledge of the spaceship’s name would be clue enough to the doctor that she knew who and what he was – it was much easier to avoid a hostile confrontation when the basics were laid out.
❝ i did not want to go inside– or, rather, i knew i would not be able to go inside. the tardis is much too smart to let a stranger through its doors. i merely wanted a closer look. her beauty is hard to appreciate when she is traveling quickly through the time vortex. ❞
still a little rustled from the fall, chris used the tardis for support once more as she inched her way closer to the alien, offering out her hand as greeting.
❝ my name is theta aquarii, a star of the constellation aquarius. or, at least, i was. i go by the more appropriate name of “chris” on this world. may i just say… it is a pleasure to finally be meeting you, doctor. i watched your adventures for as far as i could; when you traveled to different worlds outside of earth’s galaxy, i unfortunately could not witness you in action. ❞
hostility gives way to wonder as he nears the star, completely taken aback by her introduction. good that she was quick in introducing herself; after all, just because someone held knowledge of the TARDIS, certainly did not mean they were a friend of his. call it an ancient man’s wisdom & intuition, but, he did not read her as an individual who would wish to do him harm. instead, benevolence & meekness radiated from her expression. &, it really is needless to say that he is flattered by her admiration. &, so, the lack of a smile is rectified, close-lipped it stretches but more kindly than his earlier expression.
“ chris, it is, then. i am somewhat familiar with the constellation you belong to. however, i haven’t stopped by & taken a peek. now, you are a star, you say. how is that possible, might i ask? last i checked, stars live in the skies & glow & are light years away than most believe, not in fleshly bodies inhabiting earth. unless i am mistaken in believe this is a fleshly body.“ the doctor while rude on many fronts, mostly with social interactions, he is fairly sure he can handle this conversation & be hospitable enough. gesturing for her to follow him, he leads her to the front of the TARDIS, where more light is shed through the glowing police box letters & the light filtering out through the windows.
there by the log on which he sat, a thermos rested against the wood, a sufficient amount of hot tea still held within. “ while you tell me about yourself, why don’t we have a seat here. tea? earl grey, if that suits you. ---my companions are asleep, so, i was having a cuppa out here... coincidentally, admiring the stars. “ setting down his cup in the soft foliage, he unscrews the top of the thermos, pouring tea into it and offering it to chris. “ are you the only one of your kind here? “
