I’m sitting here at my new laptop, which is the first one I’ve owned in five years, as I’ve been working full time in a lab and not needed one since I last studied in 2014. I love typing on it, which is probably one of the reasons why I decided to write this post. It’s a beautiful laptop. Whenever I have had to type up something in the last few years I used my husband’s desktop computer, which is fine, but some of the keys are a bit sticky. Particularly the space bar.
I’m also writing this because I don’t know what to do with my spare time.
What DO people do with their spare time?
I have plenty of things I could be doing. Playing with the cats, knitting on one of three different projects, crochet, sewing, cross stitch, washing dishes, vacuuming, the list goes on. But I just don’t feel like doing any of those things. So instead I’m sitting here with my laptop trying to think of something useful to do with my time.
It’s not like I’m doing nothing. I’m not sitting here in silence. I’m watching things on YouTube, but I feel like I also need to be doing something else. I’ve already done far too much scrolling through facebook in the last few days. All of the places online just feel like they’re spewing out the same stuff they always do.
This feeling of having so many things I could do, and not wanting to do any of them, makes me wonder what other people do with their spare time. I know people play video games, I do sometimes too. But I just don’t really want to play any of the games I have at the moment. I’m waiting for Animal Crossing to arrive on the Switch in March. But of course, I know that won’t solve this problem.
Part of me wants to start a new hobby. But I know that hobbies cost money, and take up space, and I already have plenty of hobbies to choose from.
Do people actually just spend every weeknight watching TV and scrolling through their phone?
I could go for a walk…but I won’t.
