tbh the rat balls article confirms a lot of what i worry about these days which is that no one is actually reading anything. people are just mashing "ok" on things and don't actually care. there's no actual quality control because to turn things down for their quality means turning down money for a submission
you go ahead and peer review a paper on your own time without pay, then, in a job where you're already expected to work overtime for free.
it's not "people" just "mashing" things, it's an economic situation with workers and labour involved.

perfect example of someone going out of their way to have the most bad faith interpretation of what someone is saying & why often blind rage shuts things down instead of leads to working out solutions to a problem.
the reply isn't even disagreeing, but attempting to give insight into WHY the current peer review system is just not working as it should. OP claims greed and laziness is the issue, implying an inherent human quality done by bad evil people. The person replying is angry as well, but gives an explanation that actually people aren't paid to review papers, are overworked as it is, and has outside systematic issues that are railroading people into making harmful decisions. This is something that can actually be addressed. OP doesn't go "oh, ok I see I have attributed senseless malice to something that is a systematic issue. What can be done about this?" Instead, the response is "Oh so you are saying its fine to do fake science if you're tired?" Which is not what the person replying was saying, and this is obvious. Sorry to do this on real people but I see this all the time and screaming at someone who actually agrees with you only indulges in useless self righteous anger that only exist to make you feel smart and morally superior. Nothing was achieved here.
