How a One Direction Blog Changed My Life
Back in May 2015, I abandoned this blog. That miserable day the headlines read “Zayn Malik has left One Direction” was the straw that broke the camels back. With my social life expanding, and school commitments, I abandoned my blood swear and tears. Now, I’m back.
I OWE THIS BLOG MORE THAN I’M WILLING TO ADMIT.
“I run a One Direction blog” I’d say, in a mocking voice as I realised it wasn’t the most popular pastime. It could read as desperate and obsessive to some, and admirable to those already one direction fans.
However I found my career because of this blog. Tooting my own horn, I built an empire that I’m ashamed I left so abruptly. I had 35k+ followers, 10+ groups, had many online friends, and made themes.
This blog taught me HTML skills, how to conduct myself on social media, and how to upkeep a reputation, in which were employable skills. This lead to pursing a career in PR & Social Media, currently in my second year of study in Media & Communications.
It acted as an outlet for socialisation. I vented about personal and school problems, always met with a flood of advice (in which I’m sure we can all relate to on this platform).
Finally, I learnt about real commitment. Setting deadlines for releasing themes, queuing posts, managing my time on family getaways so I could still run the blog.
Overall, this blog guided me through those awkward teenage years and to that I thank you. Blogs are so much more than you think, treat yours with care and purpose. Most of all, DO NOT BE ASHAMED.
You may ask why I have returned after so long. As if they read my diary, my lecturer has created an assignment . A whole university assignment worth 50% based off regularly running a tumblr blog about the subject. Even though it is about theories and frameworks, who would have dreamt at 13 years old, I could have been running a blog to pass a university subject?
While I won’t be using this blog for the assignment, I want to get back on tumblr. Reconnect with those who made it so special. I was thinking of taking a different route, as one direction are essentially a teenage memory. I still love giving advice and reading people, do you think I could turn this into an advice blog with a twist?
Anyway, I’m not sure what this blog will become, but I’m excited as to what other opportunities it can offer me.
