I actually address this in my faq if you want to check that out, but to be fair, my views on this have become more nuanced since when I wrote that.

At the moment, I would say yes and no.

Yes in the sense that feminism aims to grant women rights, treatment, humanity and safety that are equal to those granted men. The goal of feminism has never been to establish a matriarchy where women oppress men. In my view, feminism as a practice should be in opposition to oppression and abuse of any kind—the whole point is to unravel and questions systems of dominance. Further, feminism should also aim to dismantle toxic masculinity, i.e. gendered norms that harm men—as these norms are integral to the oppression of women.

But I would also no in the sense that equality is often mistaken by people to mean women being granted the same things as men in the current society we live in, because that usually means not changing the fact we live in a capitalist, racist, transphobic, heterosexist, ableist society and just making incremental changes that benefit the most privileged upper-crust of women, to the expense of those beneath them. Hence why, in my view, the only form of feminism worth its salt is feminism that is for the dismantling of patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, ableism, heteronormativity, and cisnormativity.

Then again, there are many branches of feminism, some in direct conflict with one and other. Unfortunately, liberal feminism you tend to see in popculture is all about white privileged women getting ahead at the expense of others—a Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean Inand Tina Fey’s Bossypants brand of feminism. In theory, feminism is supposed to be for the liberation of all women, but in practice this often isn’t the case. My goal as a feminist is to advocate for all oppressed people, not just to get mine and split.

David Suzuki is a household name here, a constant presence on TV (“The Nature of Things” on CBC), pretty much synonymous with environmentalism, and according to a national poll last year, the most respected Canadian in the country.

Don’t doxx Leelah Alcorn’s “parents.”

It’s true that they are the reason their daughter is dead. It’s true that they are failures as parents, as Christians, and as decent human beings. I don’t believe they deserve an a ounce of sympathy. 

But if they receive death threats, the media is going to start playing them up as the victims, the poor innocent parents who lost their child tragically and are now being harassed by evil SJWs. Don’t let them get the media on their side. 

By all means, send  them messages telling them to stop misgendering their daughter, telling them they were shitty parents, but do NOT send anything threatening, anything hateful, anything hostile, because it will make those tremendous pieces of shit look like the victims when they are not.
