Daddy’s back.
No, seriously, I’m about to make a recovery from my brief LoA.
Due to personal reasons, this blog will remain inactive indefinitely, i’m sorry.
Are we allowed to respond to your old starters? :)
Indeed.
Sorry for my absence, there’s been a lot of IRL Complications in my life. Please bear with me.
“It’s not just a matter of food, we need to find a place to sleep eventually.” Casually, cautiously, the veteran marine just closed his eyes for a moment.. The scent of burnt flesh still clung to his nose, to his clothing.. His hair.. Gods, he’d kill to remove that smell from him. “At least the barricade trick worked. We hoped we’d never have to use it..” He spat out the window before looking back towards her, just.. his eyes opened, those dragonfire green eyes quietly observing her before looking back to the road.
Wordlessly, he pulled out a protein bar from his jacket and offered it out to her. “I ate lunch.” Did he? No, but in all honesty.. He’d become a survival eater after the years in the military. Marines were used to being deprived. He loved food but in all honesty? He could do without it a lot better than she could.
“Best bet’s probably North Georgia.”
“You’re right. And to stay for a few days. Do you think there are any buildings that are secured? Or houses with dungeons? Both can work if we remain quiet and we don’t attract the infected.” She muttered, giving him some glances when she could. “They still managed to take it down, though. And I hoped they wouldn’t, but you did a good job on burning them.” She leaned back on the seat and now handled the wheel with a hand, running her fingers through her hair as she sniffed the smell he had on him.
She gave a brief glance towards the protein bar and took it gently. “Thanks.” She opened it with her free hand and then had a bite of it, humming at the taste. “It’s good.” She said after she chewed on it and swallowed it. After ten minutes of driving, she stopped at the gas station. “Want to charge some gas?” She asked, turning her head towards him.
“Dungeons huh? Like what kind of dungeons?” Trying not to crack up at the perverseness in his tone. Yeah. That kind of dungeon.. “I was thinking..a cabin. Remote cabin. The steep ground would make it harder for them to get up. We can burn the lower hills to clear it out so no one can sneak up on us. Maybe. I don’t know.” He didn’t know, he didn’t have a clue.. Those he paused when she sniffed him, letting it go.. though, once they finally came at a gas station.. “Yeah. We need it. Even if we’re mostly full.” If she stopped? Out of the car he went.
First thing’s first though, he gestured for her to follow him, pullin’ that kukri from his waist as he headed into the place, headed right at the doors.. They’d need gas cans, maybe food. Who knew what the place had in it.. He didn’t remember scavenging from here before.. And, there might even be a map!
“You’re not wrong.” amusing more than anything, he tapped the center of it. “7.62x54R. That’s the designation of this bullet. Probably a bunch of meaningless jargon for you, but it’s what the Dragunov SVD sniper rifle is chambered for.. See, when you go through Scout Sniper school, the final title, before sniper, is a Hog. H.O.G, means Hunter of Gunmen, it comes after the PIG, P.I.G, Professionally Instructed Gunman.” His.. lips curled at the corner. “It’s funny, I know, go ahead an’ say ‘Always knew you were a pig, Tyrssen.” A grin was on his face despite himself. “This..” He tapped the bullet. “Is a Hog’s tooth. You get one after Sniper school until you can collect your own.. Now, what that means is, the first you kill an enemy sniper? You take the first round in his rifle, the one chambered, and you make it into your hog’s tooth.”
Quietly, he removed the chain from his neck, his dogtags attached to it. “..The son of a bitch I took this from killed my spotter, nearly killed me when we were providing overwatch. He put a bullet in my shoulder, thought I was done, at least he did until I put a round through his scope and blew his mind out the back of his head. ..It’s the only time I killed a man that I’m proud of killing.” He tilted his head to the side, rolling his jaw. He didn’t tell stories, he didn’t brag, and he didn’t embellish it.. He just held that bullet up. “You friend Warren. She’s a soldier, and she’s got a mission. Your friend Garnett led you half of the way, she’ll lead them the rest of the way. ..And I promise you, Addison Carver, I’m gonna drag your sorry, redheaded, dreadlocked, bat swinging, ass to them, or it’ll kill me.” Pause. Beat.
He tossed that chain, dogtags and hog’s tooth and all, over to her. “Because you’re not gonna give that back until I take you to them.” The bullet with his name of it, and he just tossed it to her, as a promise, that he’d get her to her friends.
addy paid attention to his words, though she wouldn’t understand the weight of them until later; not until he actually acted. there’s a joke in there that is the cause of a faint smile that tugs at the corners of the redhead’s lips. she could see his story vividly in her mind as he removed the chain that held his prized possessions of his old life. truthfully she couldn’t wait for him to meet ten k, they’d probably become fast friends. if anything she could see them quickly becoming a team of two deadly snipers. it was actually a pleasant visual to addison. any idea of a happiness was something to hold onto now. ‘can’t say i blame you,’ she knows that rage of loss; how it blinds you and makes you capable of things you never thought possible. it’s too common for her now. he’s right about one thing though; warren’s a soldier. she’ll finish what the group had started. she was ruthless enough to do what was necessary. it pained addy to realize how much she actually missed the old group, but she didn’t have time to dwell as she caught the chain. her gaze settling on it. without so much as a second thought she puts it on, keeps it safe. ‘i think you’ll like ‘em, we got a sniper that’s right on par with you.’
“Yeah?” Asking quietly with an amused lilt to his voice.. He didn’t tell her what he initially thought about that, there was no point to it. He fully planned on splitting after returning her to her people. As much as he liked the redheaded warrior, he... never did well in groups, not in the long run, or so he believed he didn’t. “Shooting’s not that hard. Just takes patience.. A sniper, though. You gotta get creative. Believe me, once you lay in a pile of your own leavings for a few days in a jungle, waiting for a shot.. You kinda realize the glamour thing they preach in the recruitment is bullshit.” Cracking up, just a bit before he .. just sort of shook his head.
“Wouldn’t mind meeting him though. It’s kind of lonely, being a sniper. I mean, y’know, we work in pairs, spotter and sniper, so when you’re on your own? Sorta sucks.” Something that he, sadly, knew all too damn well. He didn’t go on about it though, he just lifted his chin to her bat. “I gotta ask though, where the hell did you pick that up at? That’s gotta be the most wasteland thing I’ve ever seen, legitimately.”
I’ll work on drafts, I might answer memes but meh. Sorry guys. No muse tewdae.
”I was already here when it broke loose.” She admitted, a sigh escaping from her lips as she kept her eyes on the road, trying not to distract herself. She saw some walkers on the road, and some of them were either standing like statues and others were feasting on the dead corpses. All of this looked like a nightmare to her. A nightmare that she would never wake up of, because it was real.
She knew most of Atlanta, but not the countryside. Her lips pursed and she nodded. “Good idea. We need to find some supplies. I’m starving already.” It had been a long day and she didn’t have the chance to have a snack before the walkers had shown up out of nowhere. At his question, she gave him a brief glance. “A little. There’s a gas station up ahead. We can stop there.”

"You are my sunshine (For Nyssa specifically XD)
How the fuck did this happen? How? Of all the goddamned walkers, they get jumped by Raiders. That bastard, he could still feel her, even as the blood spread out in her chest, cellophane from her cigarette packaging stopped it from behind a sucking chest wound, but even as he tried, his rolled up shirt being covered in her blood, his jacket beneath her head.. He could stop that pixie like girl from bleeding out.. Innocent. She was innocent. She was the only thing he had to keep him going, the only thing that made him laugh, or smile..
She was his sunshine.
Quietly, he watched her pass, with a wretched look on his face.. Helplessness, watching her pass with a bloodied smile on her face, telling him she was alright, but he couldn’t hear her, he couldn’t hear from the blood pounding in his ears.. He couldn’t hear her from the laughing he heard from behind cover.. A hand went up to his pistol.. But then it dropped.
No. Fuck that.
He didn’t grab the rifle, the machete, or even his knife. No, he pulled that hatchet from the back seat and raised up...Gripping it as he walked from behind that cover. ..Killing had to be blood, blood was paid for by more blood.. And though this was going to be their last night on this earth, it was going to be the longest night that they’d ever experienced.
jacob’s words resonate with addy, she was of a similar mindset before the world went to shit. the idea that people were inherently good, and if put into a bad situation they’d rise above as a collective. of course all those good thoughts had dissipated when the end came. his words caused some ease in the redhead though, distracted her really. her group was strong, addy had no doubt in that - but so were the sisters of mercy. she watched all they had built become destroyed in a matter of hours. glancing to the bullet around her neck she rose a brow. ‘never put much thought into it. figured it was something from your old life.’
“You’re not wrong.” amusing more than anything, he tapped the center of it. “7.62x54R. That’s the designation of this bullet. You are my sunshine (BECAUSE WE JUST CAN'T STAY HAPPY)
...Bloodied fingers worked through her auburn colored hair, pushing along her scalp just like he’d done too many times before as he held her there, his back to an oak tree. “You are my sunshine..” Quietly singing the song that his mother used to sing to him, his other hand against her cheek, feeling the fever start to rise, all because they hadn’t checked the bed, all because they’d gotten arrogant, gotten cocky. “My only sunshine..” He could feel the weight in his chest, and it was enough to drag him back down into the pit that she’d lifted him from..
“You ...Ma.. You make me hap-py, when skies are gr-grey.” His voice shook as he felt her fade, as he felt the breath rattle from her body. That resolve that kept them together, kept their little fucked up family together, it shook then. It .. It wasn’t going to be enough and he knew it. “You’ll.. You’ll never know... D-dear. How.. How.. “ He felt them roll down his cheek, those salty little drops that betrayed how he felt about her, or how he carried on alongside her.. He’d never told her, had he?
That he loved her. He never told her that. She’d never told him. They’d pretended that they didn’t. It was a lie that they told eachother, and forgave eachother for, but they’d never fucking said it, and now.. Gods, how his heart broke as he held her.. “How... much I love you.” Not loved, love. How much love he still had for her.. He knew what was coming, even as he skin lost its warmth. The faint rattle her breath took. That wasn’t the rattle of a survivor, it wasn’t a death rattle at all. It was the voice of someone coming back as something else.
The urge to let consume him was there, but he couldn’t let what this thing was rise up carrying Selene’s face.
“Please..” He unholstered his pistol then.
“Don’t take..” A nerveless thumb rolled the hammer back to that LAR Grizzly as he put it beneath her chin, closing his eyes..
“My sunshine... My.. My sunshine.” He sniffed and hard, blinking those tears from his eyes, letting them roll down.
“...away.” BANG!
