The way Ellie babbles like a small child when she recognizes Joel is SO POWERFUL. It perfectly emphasizes the contrast of the horrors she has been forced to commit and the reality that she is very much still a child. It also demonstrates the depth of Joel and ellie’s relationship, and how much of a father he really is to her. She can be a child, be vulnerable, with Joel because she feels safe, both emotionally and physically, with him. And only him.
