When I hear people say, 'The good Americans who marched on their state buildings with guns to object quarantine measures were not only exercising their second amendment right, but they did so peacefully. That's the difference between them and the rioting thugs of BLM.' I can't help but think back to this moment in America's history.

In 1967, The Black Panther movement lawfully exercised their second amendment right too. They patrolled their own neighborhood 'copwatching' to ensure the police weren't brutalizing the citizens. And immediately the govt made it illegal to open carry loaded firearms in that state.

This is one of many instances where the finish line gets moved when we're the ones running the race. Just another example that they will change the rules of the game as we play because they don't want us to win. We can jump through every hoop, follow the rules, do everything through the right and legal channels and still get burned. Literally. Like when they burned Greenwood, Tulsa to the ground.

And you wonder why Black Americans are so tired? So angry? I know that many other problems exist in the black community (worldwide) and they ought to be addressed too. But this systemic racism ties into a lot of those problems. Causation. Addressing it, acknowledging it and working toward actual change and reform is necessary to get us on the right track to what we hope will be a better future.

EICMA 2019

L’ultima edizione di EICMA conferma alcune sensazioni che già da tempo gli appassionati di Cafe Racer avevano colto: la scena internazionale assiste ad un assestamento generale che non butta fuori nuovi “modelli wow”. Aumentano le cilindrate, cambiano gli allestimenti, si rivisitano vecchie glorie, ma la sostanza rimane la stessa. Belle novità invece dal reparto corse, soprattutto Ducati, Honda e la varesina MV Agusta, e dagli approcci all’elettrico delle grandi case.

Sì perchè quest’anno ne è valsa la pena soprattutto per i prototipi, un futuribile che ammicca con eleganza al presente e catapulta gli spettatori in un nuovo immaginario. Tra il pubblico c’è chi sentenzia: “E’ solo design!”, e forse hanno ragione. Tuttavia….che figata! Una celebrazione estetica senza precedenti che si materializza a pochi centimetri dal volto. BMW ha tutta la mia attenzione: le linee, i dettagli, la seduta, le proporzioni, i materiali…

Stesso discorso per Aston Martin, che coniuga con successo la tradizione di un brand che non sbaglia un colpo con l’innovazione di un concept che lascia a bocca aperta: un’aggressività aggraziata, un carattere schivo che ama farsi corteggiare nella sua inaccessibilità. Eppure…la moto è lì, che implora di essere messa alla prova su asfalto. Tutti la guardano in silenzio: forse non la capiscono…o forse non c’è complimento migliore della pura ammirazione.
