when you guys are done with cage -open-, are there any plans to translate cage -close-?

Sorry for the probably late reply, I haven’t been much on Tumblr these past few months if not on my cellphone.

I can’t exactly speak for the team, and I haven’t been in contact with Dreamer for a while now, so I’m not too sure about her plans. To be honest, lately I haven’t been too sure about my plans either. I’m considering the idea of translating Close, but I can’t guarantee anything yet. So I’ll have to leave you with a maybe.

Toby is fine with undertale fanart being sold though (as long as it wasnt like in large quantities, for example someone made a plush of toriel i think and sold it and he was fine with that, as long as they werent sold in a store or something) but I dont really see how that entirely applies to video games? Selling fanart doesnt compete with a dev, you cant play a game on a drawing of a character i dont understand that post much

Are you sure?

To be honest, A LOT of people do not seem to understand this post, so Im going to make it very clear whats the problem:Doing fanart is fine, selling it is ALWAYS illegal. Yes, we are all guilty of this, me including with selling MLP Fanart as an example at Conventions like Gala Con. The big difference is that MLP is a big show of a well payed studio that is selling TONS of merchandise on their own and make a huge amount of profit out of it, regardless if you sell some art based on their show on your own.Fanartists are not a threat to their company since the amount of money you make from their show isnt a huge loss for them and so you are likely to not get into trouble for selling it.They DO have the rights tho to take you down ANYTIME should you ever be a thorn in their side.

NOW, whats the problem with selling fanart based off indie games like undertale or webcomics like avas demon for example ?OK so, lets say I published my dragon-book and opened up a small shop with official merchandise for it. I am a freelancer Artist and thus every single penny I make out of my work is important for my survival. Now, imagine that someone out there loved my work so much that they NATURALLY, decided to make fanart for it. Thats all fine. But then they thought it would be a great idea for some reason to make profit out of MY idea and sell it online. Fanart of steven universe or gravity falls? No problem. Do you think disney or cartoon network REALLY care about that ONE poster you sold online? But now you are selling fanart of MY work, of MY project, the project of a SINGLE ARTIST and not a huge company. Every single penny you earn out of it is a huge loss on profit for me.

THATS why you should not sell fanart based of indie games or other projects of indie artists. They NEED the money YOU make from THEIR work. Feel free to make fanart as much as you want, it is a great way of promoting the original product, whether its a book, comic or game.

But PLEASE, have some respect for indie artists who put YEARS of work into realizing their ideas, and support the OFFICIAL merchandise THEY created INSTEAD of making your own.
