The Best of Underground Hip-Hop

@hiphopfightsback / hiphopfightsback.tumblr.com

Hello, my name's Jake and I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to music and deciphering the science behind its beauty. As you can guess from my blog's title, I'm especially passionate about hip-hop. I post and review the best songs hip-hop has to offer, old and new. Most are in the “underground” genre, considering that’s where the vast majority of hip-hop's true art resides these days. The overall goal of my blog is to educate the general public by exposing them to outstanding hip-hop songs and artists that they might have otherwise never known about or overlooked. Many people don't realize the hip-hop universe is filled with countless beautiful gems that sadly remain completely hidden deep underground, buried by the overwhelmingly fake, watered down, and soulless music of the mainstream radio and music industry. “There's a war going on outside no man is safe from”, so do your part and help real hip-hop fight back against this overly popularized wackness and sellout mentality. Long Live True Audio Art! I also make mashups (over 5 million overall plays), which are linked below.

There aren’t any lovely ladies where I live that are hip-hop heads. It’s a real problem. I have to eventually move somewhere else if I’m ever going to find a wife I can cuddle with on the couch while listening to Dilla…passing a big ass kush blunt back and forth. I need this in my life.

Don’t claim hip-hop if you only hop to what’s hip.

Really one of the greatest posts on this site

There’s hip hop, and there’s hip-pop

At this point I’ve been camping and living off my bike for over 5 months and accumulated well over 5000 miles. In a couple weeks I’m moving into my new place and my tour officially ends at the 6 month mark. Without question the greatest experience of my life.

Random Hip-Hop History

In 1993, Tupac received a letter from the parents of a dying boy, named Joshua. They said it was Joshua’s last wish to meet Tupac. Tupac flew to Maryland to meet Joshua and took him to a basketball game. Soon after Joshua’s death Tupac renamed his publishing company from Ghetto Gospel Music to Joshua’s Dream.

13 years ago on November 13, 2004, Russell Tyrone Jones, better known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard, died of an accidental overdose from a fatal mixture of cocaine and the prescription drug Tramadol, a synthetic opiate that is usually prescribed to treat severe pain. We’ve lost too many legends to opioids. May he forever Rhyme In Peace…
