Story time: When I was at university in Japan I lived in an international dorm with all of the other foreign exchange students, and my best friend at the uni was a French girl who lived directly across the hall from me. Nausicaa, and we taught each other slang from our native languages.

One of the first things she taught me was to respond like this when someone’s looking for something, so like “où sont mes clés?” (where are my keys?) “dans ton cul” (in your ass), which can then be followed up with “comme ma bite” (like my dick)

Fast forward 8 years and Nausicaa comes to visit London from Lyon with her boyfriend, who I’ve never met before, and at one point he says “ou est mon tabac?” (where’s my tobacco?), and of course I say “dans ton cul”, and the boyfriend looks at me like “what the fuck English person” and then when the follow up of “comme ma bite” comes, he laughs so hard I think he’s gonna break a rib, and Nausicaa is just there with this shit eating grin and is like “I taught them that”

She told me later that day that of all the things she taught me and we learned together, she was so proud that saying “up your ass, like my dick” was what stuck

Important

Adding this because they’re safe for dogs too

How are turkey skin and bones not safe? Please elaborate.

Avatar

Dunno about skin, but Turkey bones, and avian bones in general, are really easy to shatter. If a dog eats said shards, it could tear up their insides.

Important for all pet users!!

And before anyone tries that “cats eat bird bones!” Remember two things: 1) cooked bones are more brittle 2) turkey bones are a heck of a lot bigger than robin bones

And the skin is so fatty because we’ve bred turkeys to be so heavy. I do wonder if heritage breed skin is safer, but I wouldn’t risk it.

The fat in poultry skin is a much more concentrated form than any thats found through the flesh, and dogs (and possibly cats too? Not sure for them) struggle to process such an intense amount of fat. We used to give my dog chicken skin off roasts and a whole lot of leftover bits from meals (no bones — NEVER give a pet cooked bones, ever; as previous people have mentioned, they shatter into extremely sharp shards and will tear the animal’s stomach and intestines open from the inside) and while she was “fine” for the first couple of years, she ended up developing pancreatitis, as a direct result of all the fatty things we were giving her. We had NO idea it was so bad for her, and she loved those bits, so we thought we were giving her great treats. Not so.

She had to be put on an extremely restricted diet – her pancreas straight up could not process fat anymore. The food we gave her could have no more than .06% fat, or it would set her off and she’d have to be taken to the vet. It was extremely serious every time. We nearly lost her countless times – when a sausage would fall off the plate by the barbecue and she’d get to it before we did, when a friend was over and didnt the seriousness of the situation and would give her a piece of cheese, a young cousin left a piece of chocolate or cupcake on a low table, etc. It was that easy to trigger it – a single sausage would legitimately have killed her if we hadn’t gotten her to the vet in time, and even then it was touch and go.

It ended up being what killed her. We went on holidays and organised for a neighbour to look after her. They ignored the feeding instructions and instead of feeding her a set amount twice a day, they gave her the daily amount in a single hit. The double amount of food resulted in too much fat being in her system. By the time the neighbours notices she wasnt well and got her to a vet, it was too late. The vet tried for a week to save her, but ultimately failed.

And she wound up with this illness in the first place, all cause we gave her treats of chicken skin and left over fatty cut offs from roasts and etc.

Don’t do it. Don’t give your pets turkey skin or chicken skin or etc, and don’t give them fat trimmings, and don’t give them raw bread dough (that one is not an issue of fattiness; the uncooked dough will block up their insides and they’ll need surgery), and don’t give them left over onion or sultanas or raisins or grapes or stuffing. Put those things in the bin, and give your pet an actual pet treat, like a rawhide chew or etc.

Steve Rogers in a single gif.

We joke about Steve’s patriotism as his strong suit, but his actual strength was his sense of moral right. His whole philosophy is summed up in the line “I don’t like bullies” in the first movie. Steve loves his country. He loves it enough to be at the front of the line trying to fix what he sees as moral wrong in it.

steve rogers is patriotic in the most real sense: he represents the concept at the core of the american ideal, the concept of freedom that is the reason our political system is designed to adapt and alter itself for constant improvement.

he is not loyal to any momentary leader or agenda, and when those leaders and agendas stand contrary to his core ideal of self-determination and freedom from oppression, he’ll speak up without hesitation.

honestly, i never would’ve thought captain america would be my favorite superhero, but he’s the activist i aspire to be.

Captain America is loyal to nothing but the dream.

The problem with Captain America’s image in the public mind is that people recite the first line of his byword and ignore the last part :

My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right.”

Not to mention his

.

My favorite line from the issue: “This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree besides the river of truth, and tell the whole world— —No, you move.

Steve Rogers is a radical and that’s why I love him.

I know that Peter’s Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy technically has flaws but also....it doesn’t. It’s perfect.

Are these magic cloaks?’ asked Pippin, looking at them. with wonder.

‘I do not know what you mean by that,’ answered the leader of the Elves. ‘They are fair garments, and the web is good, for it was made in this land. They are Elvish robes certainly, if that is what you mean. Leaf and branch, water and stone: they have the hue and beauty of all these things under the twilight of Lorien that we love; for we put the thought of all that we love into all that we make.”

- Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 8: Farewell to Lorien

This is how I think of Jackson’s movies. Yes, there are serious flaws - Gandalf’s de-powering, Gimli as comic relief, and Faramir, namely - but come on.

Remember when the guys making their chain mail invented a new method for quickly producing large amounts of it by hand? Remember Miranda Otto walking down the street, practicing sword positions? The guys who forged all of the swords - for leads and for extras? The men and women riders who volunteered to be riders of Rohan? The costume designers who designed the inside of Theoden’s armor (which no one would ever see) so beautifully that Bernard Hill said he felt like a king? The friendships between the cast, and their size doubles, and the stuntmen?

When they made that movie, they put all that they loved into all that they made.

Wait tell me more about that chainmail thing

“Kaynemaile has worked tirelessly to perfect the material science behind beautiful architectural mesh, collaborating with architects and designers on projects that embolden urban environments with positive buildings. The company’s patented polycarbonate mesh, inspired by 2,000-year-old medieval chainmail, was initially created for the armor and weapons seen in the The Lord of The Rings movie trilogy and is now used on major architectural projects around the world.

“The film’s art director and Kaynemaile’s founder Kayne Horsham worked with his team to construct each garment from plastic plumbing tubes, coating them in pure silver. Once filming wrapped, Horsham dedicated himself to creating a change to the liquid state assembly process to mass produce the polycarbonate chainmail for architectural applications — products that were light, but strong enough to protect the interior or exterior of a building. Now an industry-leading manufacturer, Kaynemaile produces mesh for everything from small interior screens to large scale exterior façades. Their mesh is easy to install and can be custom created for specialized applications.”
