“I would love you if you were a bad person,” Harry admits, later, his mouth pressed to the back of Draco’s neck, darting his tongue out to catch the salt of sweat. “You have to know that. I would love you if you were the worst.”

Hi yes here’s more morally ambiguous criminals in love, I haven’t run out of “be gay do crimes” recs yet! So this is actually the second part of the summary: “If you wanted 8k of sexy arson, emotionally difficult arson, general arson, handkerchiefs, dread, and poetry curation, now is really your moment.” And I stopped thinking at sexy arson because how could I resist this sexy brand of unhinged?? I’ve been a fan of FFB since Open for Repairs (still one of my favorite Muggle Draco stories ever) and this fic called me like a siren with its clever, tense and cathartic vibes. Everything is original and bold, from the narrative structure to the precise economy of words, to these dark and complex characters bonding over their shared anger, and don’t get me started at those punchlines that make you wanna go back and reread every paragraph before moving on to the next.

Dark!Drarry is not a concept I explore often - and as much as I love this fic I’ve only read it twice - but something about the rationale behind their anarchism catches my breath, and makes me wanna learn more about them, their motivations and background, their fears and hopes. The non-linear narrative only adds to the plot tension and keeps you on edge while trying to put pieces and timelines together. It’s really interesting to watch Harry and Draco’s connection grow among the ruins of this grim, kinda apocalyptic post-war, that shapes not only them but every character in the story. It’s dysfunctional and heartbreaking but executed with such raw honesty, I just can’t look away.

This is a poignant read, rich and striking both in prose and style. The ambiguous ending may be too much to bear for some, but IMO it’s the perfect fit for this intense and melancholy love story born in a hopeless world, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Happy sad Friday!

it is once again time to be emo abt angry sad lost boys—first, a dark!harry double feature: as bloodlust vigilante and haunted assassin. second, it’s two of my favorite GallaPlacidia dracos: an eccentric, burlesque dancer draco (feelings avoider) and an anxious, charity worker draco (feelings declarer). this week’s characterization said contrast, intrigue, range!

The Placebo Sequence by Snegurochka - 6k, M Harry Potter has only ever had two goals in life: to defeat Voldemort and to bring his followers to justice. One, he’s done. The other is in progress. It should be simple, except there’s one former Death Eater who doesn’t meet the right criteria.

harry’s anger has always been the most interesting and cathartic part of his character for me. i love it when fic writers choose to explore the extent of that justified rage. this post-war harry wants a clean slate and he wants to do the violent cleansing. there’s this exchange: “Does that hurt? “No.” Malfoy was watching him intently, his jaw tight. “Maybe it should.” "Maybe it’s not up to you to decide.” but this harry wants to decide. and for two boys who have never had much autonomy, there is an allure in choice even when it’s a horrifying one. this time draco is the rational one, the just one. i think harry is enraged and absolved by that. goD all those layers and tension in 6k words? lazywonderland recc’d this one to me and she said Taste.

My Hands Are Of Your Colour by hephaestiions - 8k, M Sometimes spilled blood lingers on guilty hands. Draco sees red and Harry washes it clean.

harry, killer for hire. ministry-employed murderer. he has long moved past the shock of his job. until he sees himself through untainted eyes and all the humanity he thought he’d lost is forced to surface. it’s this part for me: “I’m glad you found it horrifying.” Draco stares. Harry shrugs. “It means you won’t become like me.” “I don’t find being you undesirable,” Draco says after a second. His eyes are brimming with something Harry can name easily. the empathy, the tenderness, the good in the grotesque! another short story banger.

Can I tell you something? by GallaPlacidia - 33k, M It’s not a party unless Draco Malfoy is there. He’s so fun! So wild! So crazy! So many drugs! So many drugs. Too many drugs? Harry’s starting to think it’s probably a lot too many drugs. This is not a drug addiction recovery fic, although there is a drug addiction recovery. Feat. character development through wide-eyed MDMA trips and Draco Malfoy finding peace as a burlesque dancer.

u read galla for her dracos—sad, eccentric, sharp, avoidant, hilarious. a little mean, a little lovely. this one is in the mess of post-war kids coping however they can via sex, drugs, euphoria, etc. but then, the inevitable come-down. draco flails. draco copes. harry is always somewhere in the periphery, watching. always earnest and falling in love with unattainable, devastatingly beautiful things. never letting himself become an emotional burden. they text, they banter, they confess by skirting around the confession. “I like that you always let me change the conversation when I want,” said Draco, à propos nothing. Harry quietly took another bite of his salad. Draco frowned at the table. “It makes it easier to bring things up,” he said, after a moment. there are a few scenes where draco breaks his theatric persona to say the truth plainly and you realize that the reader and draco are both watching harry learn to love from a distance. it’s a relationship of equals, of restraint. when they finally collide and settle, it feels inevitable and earned.

GOODNIGHT FROM YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND by GallaPlacidia - 13k, M Draco accidentally sends Harry a drunken letter proposing marriage. Harry responds.

ok besides the bucket list i rly think this is galla’s funniest. draco’s unhinged epistolary confessional is so so correct in its dramatics, earnestness disguised as humor, etc. draco choosing to be a data analyst for a muggle charity in spite of its colonialist tendencies bc the job is morally complex. harry sort of being obsessed with this rambling, anxious draco. and then galla just Knowing how to write the draco and slytherin friends dynamic. god they are all a Mess. all varying degrees of hot, cutting, maladjusted, secretly lonely, and ridiculous. they make this fic happy-sad in that there are lots of different kinds of love happening here. it’s a story of old friendships and new partners. loyal, contradictory, tainted love. eager, fumbling, honest love. it gives 13k words a whole lotta depth. a complicated addition of joy and trouble to Harry’s life — i love that. this fic is exactly that.

drarry fic rec masterlist: the assorted works of seefin

so, long story short: a few of us were chatting in the drarry microfic discord about one of my all-time favorite fics "wild" and it finally gave me the perfect excuse to sit down and make this masterlist after months of contemplation.

while this may not be common knowledge anymore, “wild” was written by @seefin, an amazing author who is unfortunately no longer active in the fandom and has recently orphaned all of their works. a few months ago i did some digging through tumblr trying to find more of their stuff because i adored “wild” so much, and i managed to track down a small anthology of fics that i now want to share with the community! quick disclaimer: i’m not a fic-rec blog and there are probably people out there who’ve done this before much more poignantly than me, but whatever! you only live once baby :))

now, without further ado, here are some of my favorite orphaned works originally written by seefin — may we all bask in the warm rays of their talent:

Wild — 92.7k, Explicit

“No,” Harry said, by way of greeting. Malfoy’s blonde head rose slowly, carelessly. “Get out.”

“I feel as though we’ve already established this, Potter,” Malfoy responded. “And I feel that what we established was that you telling me to get out of places really doesn’t make me more likely to vacate them.”

just for funsies we’re starting off with “wild”, because if you haven’t read it yet i’m just going to assume you live under a rock (jk jk i love all of you). there’s a reason this particular fic has been recommended so much — the storyline is beautiful, the dialogue is hilarious, the writing is masterful, i could go on. harry lives in rural ireland with a group of badass witches (who are phenomenally fleshed-out for female oc’s — that doesn’t happen often!), isolated from his friends back in london. draco is a potions student working with one of harry’s housemates and, as you might guess, a plethora of hijinks ensue.

featuring: a heart-wrenching slow burn, a shit ton of gardening, a shit ton of potions, lots of yelling, an abandoned castle, a road trip, and a few cows (because what story isn’t complete without cows?)

Harry Potter and the Future He Doesn’t Really Want, Thanks — 70k, Explicit

It was addictive, the feeling of Draco Malfoy telling him things in a soft voice early in the morning. Harry felt like he was taming a wild animal, or petting a cat that hated everybody else. This train existed outside of time, that was the only explanation Harry could come up with as to why Malfoy was actually having a civil conversation with him right now.

this fic right here is the fic that made me fall in love with harry, luna, and neville’s friendship, and i’m sure it’ll make you fall in love too. it takes place the summer after 7th year; harry lives with luna & neville in their plant-infested flat, draco lives with pansy and without magic in a townhouse in the boujee part of london. the twist? harry can see the future, sometimes, and that future somehow involves draco malfoy in tropical shorts.

featuring: late-night train rides, good music, trips to high-brow museums, heartfelt conversations, a cat named misery, and so, so many plants.

Divination for Dickheads — 6.9k, Rated G

It doesn’t actually turn out to be the worst birthday present he’s ever been given.

it’s harry’s birthday, woop woop! and he’s getting his palm read by one mr. draco lucius malfoy! this is a short n sweet fic that will 100% make you want to go get a palm reading the minute you finish, so be warned.

featuring: bus rides with snarky!ginny, fortune teller!draco, and also an aquarium at one point, how cool is that

Home County — 10k, Rated G

Harry is an architect and the reluctant part-owner of his own firm. Malfoy works at The Ministry but doesn’t actually have a proper job title even though what he does sounds as though it’s pretty important. It would probably be harder not to become friends, when they have to sit through endless, dull meetings with each other, and skirt around some truly terrible weather, and deal with Harry’s irrational hatred of his assistant, and build thirty whole houses from the ground up in a wet field outside of London.

the description says it all, folks. we’ve got odd career choices, squishy armchairs, horrible weather, and two knuckleheads trying to build things together, so really, what could go wrong?

featuring: zero angst. like, absolutely none. no angst whatsoever. not in a hundred-mile radius. this one’s for when it’s grey outside and you need a pick-me-up, and lord will it pick you up

Thriving — 13k, Explicit

Draco’s parents had been young when they’d had him; in their early twenties and in love, looking for a blonde baby that looked like them, who would be sweet and well behaved and charming, just as they were. He had been born on a sweltering day not far into June, early in the morning as the sun was rising, the name Draco already long picked out for him.

character studies are my bread and butter, so this fic was an extra-special treat for me, personally. this fic provides a little window into draco’s life, both when he’s young and when he’s war-ravaged and dealing with the consequences of his family’s actions. seefin’s writing is succinct and meaningful, and their version of draco is one of my favorite versions ever.

featuring: ~~zero angst~~ actually kind of a lot of angst so be prepared for that. but fear not, there’s a happy ending! i’d never rec a fic to y’all without a happy ending, i promise.
