Feeling really emotional about the fact that in S1 Ed was saying how fucking boring it was that there's always a fucking plan, and they execute the fucking plan, and then another plan, and they execute that one, and so on and so on and it's all so fucking BORING!!!

And then in 2x08 there he was, with Stede!! With his boyfriend!! And they're going to execute Stede's plan!! And Ed is SMILING!!!! Because it's FUN again and it feels like an ADVENTURE and he gets to do WHAT HE LOVES right beside someone HE LOVES and who LOVES HIM IN RETURN!!!!!!

It's just so GLORIOUS and if anyone needs some timber let me know because I have eaten all the drywall in my home and all that remains is absolute wreckage.

Seriously though can you imagine having shot that incredible scene and then having to cut it?

It’s so beautiful and it showcases all the characters so well and the music works perfectly and it fleshes out the story and it adds emotional impact and they had to cut it down!!

I love how much of OFMD s2 is about do-overs and second chances. Like obviously the message of the whole show is "you're not too old and it's not too late" and "everyone is capable of positive change." But I love how many specific moments the characters get to do over from their missed chances and fuckups in s1.

Stede tells Ed to wait for him in the woods while he goes back to the ship to convince them that Ed can stay another night, and it's so obvious that Ed is scared af that Stede is not coming back, that he'll be left waiting for Stede alone in the dark again. But Stede does come back! And invites Ed to come with him this time. "You wear fine things well" but this time they both know that's an overtly romantic line, they get a do-over of their almost-kiss missed connection and this time they do kiss and they both know how much it means. The lyrics of "This Woman's Work" that they use ("Give me these moments / Give them back to me" and "All the things we should've said that we never said / All the things we should've done that we never did") in the context of the scene get transformed into hoping against hope for another chance, just come back to me and I'll say and do all the things I was afraid of before, please give me another chance to make it right. And they get it.

Even Izzy fucking Hands gets a do-over of his worst moment from s1, acknowledging the harm he caused and getting to touch Ed's face and say "there he is" in the context of telling Ed to go live his authentic life.

And of course Ed and Stede at the end, Stede saying without hesitation that he has no second thoughts, that he's sure this time, and we know it's not about running an inn or any other scheme they might cook up together but about building a life together.

When we talk about OFMD as a kind show or a hopeful show this is the kind of stuff I think about. It's not that no one ever suffers or dies or gets hurt or fucks up; it's that the characters can fuck up massively but they get another chance to keep trying, together, keep swimming toward the light even when things look real dark. I know you've got a little life in you left.

Coolest thing about lord of the rings? The king of horses shows up. It appears he is no different from all other horses

King of the eagles shows up later. He can talk. Horse king couldn't talk.

He didn't want to talk to you.

adjacent advice: if you need more confidence, get a cool jacket or a haircut or something and think about how cool it makes you. this is loser advice, but we're all losers here. swallow your pride and roleplay as a cool guy and you'll become a cool guy.

it might help to think of yourself as a character designer and also yourself as a character, which is again kind of insane person advice, but this is an insane-person-for-insane-person audience blog

I have a problem with the generally accepted narrative that fascists can't create any culture/don't have any culture but rather appropriate from others; something I've seen repeated about Israelis in light of the genocide happening in Gaza.

I think it's a dangerous narrative; it is almost dehumanizing, therefore deligitimizing —but from a quasi-leftist pov.

this, I'm sure, is reassuring to antifascists/anti-zionists, respectively; but it overlooks, imo, that every culture will always build, as well any other culture, upon the materials they find themselves in: Nazis built their culture around German antisemitism and Israel built their culture against islamaphobic orientalist racism.

this was still a culture, continues to be so.

to deny so, I see, as a sorry sort of justification that tries to invalidate, on the former end, Jewish Identity in Europe, and on the latter one, Palestinian resistance; but in doing so also underscores their own point by undermined the ability to validate one cultural identity against another when one delves anywhere that's beyond a skindeep examination.

what this means is that we have to develop better ways to address what has been till today generally accepted truisms in light of the genocide happening in Gaza by Israel and of the occupation which is the context in which it has been happening for almost a century.

we can't accept the narratives handed down to us by the past century when we see the deliberate destruction of a people unfold before our eyes in a way our predecessors promised would never again again happen.

modern social media should stop offering "sync with your phone contacts to follow them" options and start offering "block all your phone contacts so they never see your account" options

Apropos of (almost) nothing: I'm the kind of pedant who dislikes calling tentacle porn "tentacle porn" not because I think it's aberrant but because, 98% of the time, what's being depicted are octoform arms or tendrils, not tentacles. Tentacles are defined by the clubbed ends, which are the only part that have suckers. If it's tapered and has suckers all the way down, it's an octoform arm; if it has no suckers at all, it's a tendril.

You're welcome.
