Enamoured with collages

@yasminwithane / yasminwithane.tumblr.com

Yasmin. With an E (Sometimes). England. Nerdfighter. Writer. Obsessed with Young Adult Literature. Also Impractical Jokers. And Dexter. And maybe Rainbow Rowell and Colleen Hoover too. Oh, and don't forget gummy sweets. I frackin' love gummy sweets. I sometimes do the fan art thing.

Book collage in ‘Regretting You’ by Colleen Hoover.

Tumblr won’t let me post anything on web so I’m having to use the app and haven’t got the patience to add hyperlinks by going back and forth, so if you wanna see the rest of my book collages (usually on YA novels or Colleen Hoover), just have a lil browse through my recently deserted tumblr 👍🏽

Much love, tumblypoos

So it’s taken me 5 years to complete this series of posters (because I am lazy and get VERY EASILY DISTRACTED), and I feel weirdly emosh posting them all here together, all finished.

Dexter is still one of my fave shows ever, even though it finished years ago (and finished LIKE THAT 👀).

Also, my whole fan art style and obsession was hugely influenced by Ty Mattson’s designs for Dexter seasons. I loved them so much, I wanted to do something similar with books, including quotes - and that’s how my book collages were made.

But anyway. That was a fun run. Onto new projects!

If you wanna see closer versions of these, here’s links to the individual posts (I dunno, they’re probably the same size as on here?? I dont know how to Tumblr much anymore)

Apparently it’s been FOUR YEARS since I worked on this series?!

I’m trying to use lock down to work on some fan art, hoping to get a few collage projects finished!

Here’s Season 7 of Dexter in collage form! Damn, I miss this show.

Sneaking back on here just to make my annual round up post because I love having them as something to look back on.

I haven’t been on Tumblr much this year because it has been the most AMAZING YEAR OF MY LIFE. I feel so so so blessed to have had such a fruitful and exciting year.

My debut novel published in July 2019, and along with that came such exciting opportunities - so most of these photos are just of me with my book 😂

Here’s my top 10 things of 2019 - in order of what I thought looked good in Tumblr preview (top left to bottom right)

1- I got to meet HANK GREEN! He was so so so lovely, and I got to gush to him about how thankful I am to DFTBA Records for selling my designs.

2- There was a gigantic poster of MY BOOK COVER at London Book Fair, one of the biggest publishing trade fairs. I got to go and see it and just bask in its magnificence.

3- I got to visit the printers to watch my book being actually printed. It was such a cool experience, that I won’t ever forget. There’s nothing like being in a warehouse full of conveyor belts carrying your book. BONKERS.

4- MY BOOK WAS NOMINATED FOR A FREAKING CARNEGIE MEDAL. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

5- I got to go and listen to the audiobook of my book being recorded and even record the author’s note myself. It was such a bizarre experience listening to these actors read MY words. Also freaky how much they brought the characters to life.

6- Let’s be honest, the highlight of my life so far - My debut novel, All The Things We Never Said, published on July 11th 2019. It’s been my dream since I was a kid to publish a novel and I'm so blessed to have been able to do that. This came with a lot of amazing opportunities that I couldn’t list here because silly Tumblr photo limit - I got to travel up and down the country doing events, talking to people who said nice things about me and the book. I got to SIGN BOOKS like a PROFESSIONAL AUTHOR. I got to go on radio a bunch of times, do exciting events and be on panels with PROPER AUTHORS that I'm a fan of myself. It’s been just the most mind-blowing experience.

7- I got to plan and throw a super fun book launch party - including halal gummy bears, shreddies and mocktails tailored to each of my characters

8- I AM A COVER GIRL??? I got to take part in a most amazing feature with Gal-Dem magazine, and was actually on their back cover for their latest issue. Literal WHAT IS AIR moment.

9- A few years back I completed my MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa Uni, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. 2 years later, my book got put on to the new students reading list, and I legit cried. It’s such an honour (that they’re forcing these people to read my book)

10- I’ve been to almost every Young Adult Literature Convention as a lover of YA Literature, and one of my dreams has been to be on a panel at YALC. I got to do that this year! Not only was I on a panel, but I got to do a signing, and THERE WAS A QUEUE. a freaking QUEUE of people who wanted me to sign their book. LITERALLY WHAT IS MY LIFE NOW/?????!?!

I just honestly can’t gush about this year enough. I’m sad to say debut year is over, but it’s also just the start of my writing career. Onwards and upwards!

So making these end of year round up things has become a tradition of mine and it feels like just yesterday I made last year’s - 2018 just FLEW by. It was a bloody fantastic year for me, personally tho. So much happened.

And so here’s a list of amazing things that happened in 2018 (in order of where the photos looked good on the Tumblr preview…from top left)

1- I got a literary agent! A crucial step in starting my writing career. (Also my agent is the sweetest person ever)

2- Achieved my lifelong deal of getting a BOOK DEALLLLLL - MY BOOK IS OUT IN 2019 PEOPLE AAAAH.

3- Got some rights deals for my book - including a very exciting pre-empt in Italy.

4- I FRICK FRACKING MET COLLEEN HOOVER (i.e. my favourite author EVAH)

5- I graduated yet again 😂

6- As part of my degree, we produced an anthology which featured my work and does it not just look deliciously pretty in print?

7- I met Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli! Both were adorable and both loved my fan art.

8- Katherine Webber held this amazing YA Prom book launch, where I got to meet some fellow 2019 debut authors

9- I GOT A NEW JOB! My dream of working for the NHS is happening!

10 - DFTBA started selling another one of my designs!

2018 was just a freaking amazing year. But it seemed to be mostly about anticipation - so a lot of things were building up to things that are due to happen in 2019.

I’m so freaking excited for 2019, but I'm also TERRIFIED about my book becoming a real thing, about people...reading it?! Judging it. Just. wow.

BRING IT ON 2019

I had so much fun making this, and enjoyed An Absolutely Remarkable Thing way more than I had expected to (I hate Sci Fi...)

Available to pre order now!

Also, obvs a few mini spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read the book. 👌🏽

I’ll post the full image in a few days.
