they deliberately targeted the family of al jazeera's gaza bureau chief. he reported on the airstrike that killed his family without realizing they had been killed, and then found out they were dead live on air.

wael el dahdouh, like shireen abu akleh, is a voice and face familiar to many who have watched reports coming out of gaza. it has already been harrowing watching him report for eighteen days straight in the most dire circumstances, but now its like seeing a beloved uncle or father overcome by grief live on air. we keep saying "there are no words" because really how else do you describe a horror of this magnitude?

wael is not the only journalist whose family was targeted. there are also reports of senior gaza surgeons whose families are killed while they are busy at work in hospitals. israel is systemically destroying the people who keep gazans alive, and the people who tell us how they're dying.

paramedics in Gaza stand on top of flattened buildings hearing voices from under the rubble until they fade out, standing helpless and crying because they just don't have enough resources to dig them out

the ministry of health in gaza had said that they are running out of fuel and will soon face complete shut down within 48 hours

the destruction is immeasurable and israel had used Gaza as a testing ground for its weapons in the past weeks. some reported the explosive power of these bombs amount to 13 tons, compared to the 15 ton atomic bomb

the bombing had literally been nonstop, nonstop

this is harrowing beyond words

israeli tears amount to nothing when a palestinian boy goes to buy bread and comes back to his entire family annihilated and he has to now identify them instead of having a meal with them

I stare in my sleep. I see no one behind me. I see no one ahead of me. All this light is for me. I walk. I become lighter. I fly then I become another. Transfigured. Words sprout like grass from Isaiah’s messenger mouth: “If you don’t believe you won’t be safe.” I walk as if I were another. And my wound a white biblical rose. And my hands like two doves on the cross hovering and carrying the earth. I don’t walk, I fly, I become another, transfigured. No place and no time. So who am I? I am no I in ascension’s presence. But I think to myself: Alone, the prophet Muhammad spoke classical Arabic. “And then what?” Then what? A woman soldier shouted: Is that you again? Didn’t I kill you? Yeah no, I'm sure the country using tiktok thirst traps to legitimize it's military has nothing nefarious to hide.

A casual reminder that while Israel is pumping out propaganda through tweets and tiktoks, they have simultaneously been killing journalists at an unprecedented rate. The IDF has killed over 25 (most likely an underestimate) Journalists since Oct 7th 2023 (Source).

Earlier this year, The Committee to Protect Journalists, did a great piece on Israel's deadly pattern of killing Journalists and how no one has been held responsible.

By killing Journalists and churning out propaganda, Israel is hoping it can get away with genocide.

And people keep trying to justify Israel's existence on the basis that it is somehow a safe place for the preservation of Jewish people and their culture and not only is that an awful argument for establishing a Settler Colonist Apartheid State but it's not even true. Like the state is politically and economically dominated by Ashkenazi Jews from Northern Europe and their descendants. While not as severely mistreated as Palestinians, there is still a significant disparity between the European and Non-European Jews in terms of income and education. Non-European Jews are still regularly subject to interpersonal bigotry (hell earlier this year there was a news story about a viral video where Ashkenazi girls in a Purim made a skit mocking the Mizrahi) and Israel government policies towards non-Ashkenazi migrants have done severe damage to their social structure and cultural traditions. Not to mention the fact that the whole reason why many Mizrahi migrated in the first place was to escape the violence caused by European Jews committing atrocities in their name, tearing communities apart as neighbours that had peacefully co-existed for centuries found themselves on opposite sides of this new ethno-religious conflict

There have even been attempts in Israeli history at the forceful assimilation or even biological reduction of non-European Jews; the kidnapping and adoption of Yemeni Jewish children in the 1950s is significant example of the former while the forced contraception of Beta Israeli (Ethiopean Jewish migrants) with the explicit intention of reducing their population's birth rate is an example of the latter. There's also very clear favouritism when it comes to recent converts; white Afrikaner converts are given the right of Aliyah while Nigerian Igbos are not. Like the fact of the matter is that Israel's fundamental nature is as a European Settler Colony, incredibly racist not only towards the indigenous Palestinians but the many Non-European Jews it claims to represent. It's an outpost of Western Imperialism, not a haven for the Jewish people. If it was ever meant to be the latter than it has failed miserably

putting aside the really big issue of how this turns "indigenous" into an abstract category about "did someones ancestors ever live here" rather than about real relations of power, it would be a big favor to a lot of people thinking that way to maybe read about the history of Liberia and how Americo-Liberians descended from the former slaves that settled there are a small minority but became the ruling caste in the country from its founding until the 1990s

It's also worth pointing out that Herzl also never hid that this was a settler colony in his letter to Cecil Rhodes - it's only more recently the Israeli government tries to paint itself as indigenous. Furthermore, Palestine wasn't always the destination to create a Zionist nation and even considered Argentina:

and make no mistake this is done so when a literal massacre takes place within 24 hours, these genocidal mfs will throw up their hands and say "we warned them"

israel knows that this is practically impossible

this affects 1.1 million people

journalists are reporting civilians are fleeing on foot

and there are also those injured and terminally ill who are in hospitals and cannot leave

this is insanity

and now we learn that israel had targeted vehicles fleeing northern Gaza, killing 70 palestinains so far, most of whom are women and children. these people were fleeing based on literal orders from israel.

so now people don't know whether to flee or stay behind, as either options seem deadly right now.

tell me how anyone can be scratching their heads still thinking where to stand on this. absolutely horrific.
